Free Taxi Rides Via CABiT, 9AM-5PM, Aug 24 [Melbourne]

140

Between 9AM-5PM today, CABiT (a taxi booking app) will offer free rides to anyone who travels in one of their 22 green taxis.

So looking at the app, all of the cabs displayed are green so basically book a fare and it will be free. Given there are 22 and this has been advertised, there may be issues with availability. Screenshot of app. I see taxis as far north as Mill Park and as far south as Moorabbin, so a pretty big coverage area.

Alternatively, there is GoCatch which you should be able to score a $25 credit or Uber with a $30 credit. However, those are for new customers only so if you have signed up for those, then CABiT might provide a good option for a free taxi today.

I'll give it a go. Hopefully the driver will be happy to leave the meter running while I pick something up.

  • App is a little horrible. You have to double tap the icons to change pages. Otherwise it's serviceable.

  • So what's the restriction? Roadtrip anybody?

    • 8 hours.

      • So…….. I'm not the best with Melbourne, what can 8 hours buy me?

  • Hmm my booking still comes up with a fare estimate… Will I be charged?

    • I think the estimator is just that, an estimator when they aren't offering free rides.

Simple test. When the cab pulls up, ask if the ride is free? If yes, then go in the cab. If not, then don't go in the cab. They don't have payment details to charge you.

      • Yeah should have tried it but ended up not taking the risk haha would have been a nice free ride to work though!

  • What if you are still in the middle of the taxi trip after 5pm ? They start charging you ?

    • Should be from the time you book via the app.
