Bought Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 in China, 4G Compatibility in Australia?

Hi guys,

Bought the new Redmi Note 2 for my mum in China (less than 200 aussie). The phone is great and mum is pretty happy with it and I might get one for myself too.

My concern is, will the phone work in Australia(4g)?

There are 3 major network providers in China:
1. China Mobile
2. China Unicom
3. China Telcom

What I heard is that China Telcom may not work but I'm not too sure about the others. I'm pretty bad when it comes to these stuff and that's why I'm here to seek for your expertise.

Thanks

Depends on which version you bought, if you bought the redmi note 2 prime ie the 899 or 999 RMB model it work with all major networks in Australia. The 799 model does not and is limited to only 2G on the telstra network.

    • There is an international version of the standard, non-prime Redmi Note 2 which has a decent range of bands for Aus. The cheaper Chinese model though, not so much.

  • The world uses frequency division LTE, Check the box for 1800mhz and will work fine locally, unless chinese base 799 model.
Also may use TDD 2300mhz on CN Mobile /optusAU.

  • I bought the TD LTE version from eBay, sent from Hong Kong. Didn't know better at the time regarding bands.

However, it seems to work fine on Vodafone 4G and Telstra 3G (Aldi). I thought it isn't supposed to work.

    • Do you refer to was a sealed box/ Which store for a$200 pls?

      • It was this one:

        Yes, sealed box.

These are the bands listed. I still don't understand why it's working for me. No complaints though!

        2G bands GSM (B2/B3/B8)
        3G bands TD-SCDMA (B34/B39)
        4G bands TDD-LTE (B38/B39/B40/B41: 2555-2655MHz)

      • Ah yes, I suspected this one. Seems very fortunate. Thanks

    • They might have fetched the other model's specs thinking they are the same. Considering they are sending from HK, the phone is probably the HK version, which means it should work here… because Hong Kong doesn't use TD-SCDMA, and only a tiny bit of TDD LTE.
