  • be careful when dealing with people from the castle hill store, ridiculously rude and arrogant staff they have working there, that is no reflection on the other branches though.

    • I like them there (its my local), just offering a 2nd opinion. quite good to ask questions, and reasonable success with getting price matched to MSY. not price MATCH, but they will always come close, and the extra $5-$10 off at MSY I would lose in petrol driving there

    • I'd just like to say, that I've also had quite a few positive experiences with the Castle Hill store. Also my local store.
But every once in a while, they'll try to rip me off, or not be entirely helpful.
But for the most part, they're a really great team at Castle Hill.

      • Yeah gotta dissent bought a few things from the Castle Hill store and its been ok.

However I gotta say… the place is just odd… there were half a dozen staff members there… in fact more than the number of customers and yet they seemed all busy as hell…

Otherwise they are quite expensive for what they are and a limited range but eh… what do you expect for a PC shop in a big centre. They want to rope in dopes. 'Professionals' go to MSY and that sort.

        • Oh I completely agree in regards to the price. I only ever buy sale items or price matched items at JW.

And there are usually quite a few staff in there, which does seem a bit odd

  • Shipping ruins everything, pickup only NSW

  • Junk for $10, how is this a bargain?

    • I need the IDE cable to retrieve data of an old IDE hard drive
Tool kit! How is that junk?
TV tuner - some people still use them
      MICRO SD CARD hmmm

One mans junk is another mans treasure :D

      • Seems like everyday prices on eBay to me.
        USB IDE/SATA cable $3.52 shipped.
45 piece tool kit $11.09 shipped.

        • The USB to IDE converter you've listed doesn't come with the power adapter. So you are not exactly comparing apples to apples.

        • @moo:

Good point - If its a 240v PSU, then maybe not so bad.
          $10.81 with PSU shipped.

I just spent over $100 on stuff. Handy stuff to have at work like tools and screen cleaners.

  • Quick question to everyone on the Laser TV tuner:

I bought it the other day (also part of this sale) and I got it home, connected it all up and installed the software. However I'm having trouble setting up the channels. It scans, but finds absolutely no channels. I've tried it with both my own antenna cable as well as the included mini antenna.
In case it helps, I'm running Windows 8.1

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

    • Quick reply: says in description "Support Windows XP/ Vista / Windows 7"
I added this to the post.

Did you try other TV tuner software?

      • Yeah I did notice that, although I'll be honest, at $10 I thought it was worth a try. Plus I've never had a problem like this before, because Windows is pretty backwards compatible.

Is this tuner likely to work with any other software?
        And if so, what software?

Btw, thanks for such a quick response mate

    • In some DVB-T tuner software you may need to set channel spacing.
You may be prompted to choose a country, or specify 6 7 or 8 mhz channel spacing.
      DVB-T in AU/NZ uses 7mhz.

      • Yeah it did ask me to set my country. And I watched it hit specific frequencies that I know channels are on. Like 219.5 (channel 10). So my thinking is that it's not getting any signal from the USB device.
Meaning I might need to take it back.

        • Ask for your money back & order one of these
Works on XP/7/8/10/*nix & does a good job of SDR.

        • @snoo:

I'll be honest, that looks pretty damn similar to mine.
And at least mine has a brand name and a brick and mortar store to take things back to.

But moral to the story, do you think mine is actually faulty? Or am I just doing something wrong?

        • @Rail Rider95:

They all look similar - it's the chipset inside that's different. These devices are all made in China.
Nearly all Aussie bricks & mortar shops have poor customer service - one of the many reasons I prefer to shop online.
In most cases if something doesn't work, those Chinese eBay shops will just ship you another device.

Did you install the software before plugging the device in?
If not Windows may have decided its own driver was far superior to ones that actually work, and installing the software later doesn't help.
If your not sure install the software first on someone elses computer, then plug in the usb TV.

If you did & its still no good then take it back & good luck arguing with the shop assistant.

        • @snoo:

Oh I prefer to avoid dealing with people when possible too haha
But it beats dealing in emails on occasion.

Hmm I actually am not certain.
But that's a very good point, I'll definitely give that a try.
I could always just uninstall the drivers and start again couldn't I?

Oh I was actually in there today, getting some case screws, and they were incredibly helpful.
But hopefully you've helped me fix it anyway, thanks!

    • I've tried it with both my own antenna cable

The one that goes to the roof antenna and picks up all channels on your HDTV?

      • Yep, that one
The one I have previously had plugged into a tv here.
As well as the little mini antenna that the device comes with.
I've pretty much ruled out software, drivers, and the antenna as the issue now. so it looks like I'll be taking the device back.

    No candy for sale

    • Sorry EC

Your search did not match any products.

  • I would get the TV tuner even with shipping because that is a good price, but I am worried that it even works with Windows 10, finding software that works well with Windows 10 since WMC is gone.

    • Well as I said above, I can get the software to work, but I'm having trouble getting it to find channels.
And I'm on 8.1, so just in case this helps your decision at all.

    • For alternative software try NPVR which works standalone, but also works as a plugin to Kodi & Plex

  • Be careful with the JW USB2.0/ IDE & SATA Adapter with PSU, USB 2.0 to IDE or Sata Adapter. I bought one on ebay (looks exactly the same) and it totally destroyed my IDE HDD. Lost all my data. Better buy the dock type.

  • a bit off-topic but related…I'm trying to find some way to watch catch-up channel nine news on the net, but on their website it's only in small short clips (not one long one, so you need to click each little clip to watch them).

Does anyone know how/where I can do this?

    Thanks
