Johnnie Walker Platinum 18yo Scotch Whisky 750ml - $89.95 + Delivery @ My Dan Murphy's

360

$100 to $120 at other major stores. Don't forget CashRewards and eGift cards for further discount. Close to best price I have seen this year of $89 back in March.

Johnnie Walker Platinum Label is a rich and contemporary blended Scotch Whisky inspired by the Walker family's tradition of crafting 'private blends' for directors of its company and for special occasions. The Master Blender has crafted a contemporary 18 year old Scotch Whisky for today's sophisticated consumer and is rich and refined - a symbol of style that rewards those who take the time to savour it. The trademark Johnnie Walker smokiness is entrenched in this whisky that strongly embodies the sweet and elegant Speyside style. Crafted from single malt and grain whiskies, Platinum is a complex blend with deep layers of balanced flavours of both whisky and wood in which it has rested for a minimum of 18 years.

    Thanks. Wednesday night sorted.

Excellent price once you add on the gift cards and cash rewards. As for the drop, i try and steer clear from uncle Johnnie. For this price i'd be looking at the Oban 14yo

18yo… Too old. I love my 12 year olds. Much smoother.

You just made the police watchlist

How does it compare with Blue label? I don't know anything about whisky but I know I like blue and don't like peat.

I reckon in a blind taste test the platinum could be easily classified as a light single malt than a blend. Slightly darker then the blue, though less peaty, smoothness would be similar. Between the blue and the platinum, at half the price I'd not bother with the blue, but there people who are driven by label prestige more than sheer quality.

      • I agree. Always thought that Blue was grossly overpriced. Had some just a couple of weeks ago (didn't have to pay for it) and once again found myself thinking that I could easily have a better scotch at half the price.

Full disclaimer - I love peat and of the JW range I'd take the hard-to-find Green (which can be for $70 on occasion) over the Blue any day. That's regardless of the price by the way.

So what's the best cola to mix with this? I've mixed Blue label with Green Tea and Cranberry Juice and let me tell you, the flavour is just out of this world.

    • shouldn't 'mix' a quality drop

    • I hear LA Cola is the way to go.

Have some respect to this high quality whisky.
Don't ever mix it with No Frills cola.

Try the '78 coke with this, if that's hard to find Pepsi Max should to it too.

    • Any coke brand is ok with blended Whisky

  • Did I get the following sequence right?

    • Buy $90 worth of Woolies Wish Gift Card (to which, after 5% off discount, I will need to pay only $85.50)
    • Then I should go to CashRewards, choose Dan Murphy, add this item to cart and pay using the Wish Gift Card

      1) If you have not got a CashRewards or MyDanMurphys account you should set those up first.

      2) You then need to order the Wish eGift Cards and wait until they are emailed to you. This can take a few hours or longer. Go to CashRewards site and then link to Woolworths eGift card site from there. The 5% saving will be applied when you purchase the card.

      3) Once you have the eGift card you are ready to make the DM purchase. Close down any open Dan Murphy Browser screens first. Then go to CashRewards and launch to Dan Murphy's site. Add the item and pay using Wish Gift Card.

You should get a confirmation email within a few days from CashRewards that the purchase has been acknowledged and cash back will be added to your account (6% for spirits) but the funds will not be available to withdraw for up to 90 days.

Dan's has now dropped the price to $89.

      • Thank you.

Just saw the Chivas going for $74.90 at DM. Might go for that first. Thanks again.

  • Am I correct that you can't actually get this for $89?
Click+Collect changes the price to $98.95, or delivery adds $7.

You need to log on to MyDanMurphys to get it for $89 with click and collect.

      • Thanks. I thought logging in would be enough.

      • No, I can't get it to work:

Sign into mydanmurphys, add the whisky to card.
        Step 1 of 2: Order details - total $89.95

Then I click payment, the next screen is:
Step 2 of 2: Payment: price changes to $119.99

        • Price should show as $89 (ie $99.95 - $10.95 Promotional Discount). If you are logged into mydanmurphys and choose click and collect that is all you will pay.

Even if you are not a member I can't see how it is showing $119.99 unless you have something else in your basket or have chosen a delivery option?

Non-members price is $99.95 and there are no delivery options that are $20.04 so I can't guess why it is getting up to $119.99?

        • @argonbay: Wow. I tried a private browser window and the price changed from $119.99 to $99.95 on this link: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_725598/johnnie-walk…

Something about my login is making it show an inflated price.
Both options say "Buy this for $89, when you sign up or log in to My Dan Murphy's" but when I do that it keeps changing it to $119 as mentioned before.

How dodgy is that!! Will try making a new login.

        • @fredblogs: Made a new account and it worked fine.
