  • I would suggest using that $150 to go up to a 4k monitor. or at least 1440p. if im spending $3500 I would want more than 1080p. I run 4K and will never go back. useless for TV's as of yet I think but it is sooo good for PC gaming. you will run most games nicely in 4K with that Gcard. i have 970 and run gtaV 4K on 40inch at 40-60 FPS

Also i dont know too much about ram, but is there fasteer than 1600 for that price?

  • If running 1080p is your plan, that graphics card is an absolute waste of money imo. You would not notice any difference between that an AMD R9 390 (Sapphire one can be bought for $500). In fact, even at 1440p, for most things that graphics card is still not worth the cost. The WIFI card is much of a muchness… I always prefer Ethernet on a desktop because the desktop is not really mobile, but that's entirely up to you and what you are limited by in terms of distance to modem.

    Everything else looks good.

So if it was me putting the whole things together,

    I'd remove the 980 Ti (-$1139)
    remove the WIFI adapter (-$49)
    Replace the 980 Ti with an R9 390 (+$500)
Replace the monitor with something in the 4k range ($+200 on top of the $449 you've allocated ~ approximation)
= $2881, leaving you $619 to do with as you please

Maybe upgrade case to a full tower, add in a nice mouse/keyboard, or get a nice sound system.
Or you can always upgrade the CPU/Mobo to an Asus Rampage V Extreme/i7 5820k for an additional $448 if none of the above appeals to you and you insist on spending more.

Resolution isn't everything; 144Hz isn't exactly easy to achieve. The graphics card is suitable. Whether it's worth the price is a bit debatable, but it's not like it'll be going to waste.

      • Yeah fair call, I missed the fact that it was a 144 Hz monitor!

Might as well move onto skylake now : techspot.com/news/61958-intel-launches-new-skylake-processors-laptops-desktops-more.html

DDR4 ram has dropped in price a fair bit, so it kinda makes sense.

Is there anything about that motherboard that you specifically need? $350 seems like a lot, especially for a now-outdated chipset.
I'd also question whether or not the liquid cooling is necessary.

Personally, I'd trim the fat in these two areas to upgrade my storage a bit (go for a larger SSD (or an 850 Pro) and larger HDD) or move to Skylake instead. Or I'd go for a better monitor, like the Asus ROG Swift with both 1440p and 144Hz - which costs a fair amount more, though.

    • Yeah, I think so. I personally couldn't justify the GTX 980 Ti price and would drop down a notch (or in my case, a few notches!)… a small drop in performance = a massive drop in price (e.g. a non-TI 980 is $300 less).

    • You should note that win 10 isn't coming up with a price, you can get it for about $155 at MSY for the retail version.

      So total is actually $3516

Don't know whether you've factored in whether Windows 10 is disk or USB copy. If Disk you'll need DVD drive, you can get one from MSY for $20.

Last thing is keyboard and mouse
