Recommend Me a Halogen Convection Oven

Hi,

I'm after a halogen convection oven. Doesn't have to be top of the line, but happy to pay extra for something better. Budget cap @ $100. A friend of mine has the Kogan one, but it's currently sold out. For those of you who has one, is it worth paying extra for one say from Harvey Norman or The Good Guys? For example this Sunbeam one?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    If you don't mind having a slightly bigger oven I highly recommend the Sunbeam benchtop oven.

    • Thanks Scrimshaw. Would the Sunbeam one be too big for a single person though? I live alone. Or would this one be a better idea?

        Depends on what you want to cook in it. I cook entire (1 person) meals inside my Sunbeam oven. I'm the only one that uses it.

        IMO 9L is too small to be of any great use, a larger capacity lets you cook a wider variety of stuff. Frozen Pizza for e.g

        • Thanks! Decisions decisions!

          In terms of function, what are the differences between the traditional benchtop ovens and the halogen ones anyway? Any idea? I'm having trouble finding useful comparison articles online.

          @RyanMK:

          My Sunbeam oven has two heating elements (top, bottom). This makes for very even cooking. You can also set it to only use the top element, but not sure why you'd want to only cook the top.

          My halogen one (yes, I have one too) has very limited capacity. You can't stack the food too high or else the top will heat much faster than the bottom, resulting in uneven cooking. The food also must be placed dead center so that hot air can circulate underneath the rack.

          Well, dropped by The Good Guys today to have a first hand look and compare. The smaller Sunbeam oven is tiny! I ended up getting the one you recommended. It looks easier to clean, and it actually doesn't take up a lot more space compared to the round halogen ones.

          Thank you again for answering my many questions :)

          No probs. I really like this oven — it might seem low tech and has no fan, but it heats up very quickly so there's very little need to 'preheat' it.
