Blocking Unsolicited Calls from Lifestyle Research Centre

I was driving at lunch and I received a call from a private number. Thinking it was an important call, I picked it up and put it on speaker (which I hate because it distracts me from driving and endangerous others). Anyway the telemarketer decided to go and ask if she could ask some research questions. I said I was not interested but she kept pushing forward and insisted adamantly that she wasn't selling anything. Between her words all I could get out is piss off. How do you OzBers block these numbers? They call on a day to day basis and now I'm officially frustrated - like frustrated after getting brodened on a tightare deal on eneloops. TO add, Ive spent the day trying to figure out how to do this on the iphone 4s and now Im knackered

  • You can only block the call if they shown their number.

Create a contact (mine is called: zDon't pick up)
Edit the contact, and on the bottom, you have option to "Block this caller"
Keep adding those telemarketer numbers to this contact

Not sure how to block it if they didn't show the number.

    Don't answer private calls.
I created a contact called DNA, All the telemarketers numbers are saved there.

You need to tell them to take you off the calling list, in some circumstances they will do so and won't contact you again.

You can also visit the Do Not Call register by the ACMA
    https://www.donotcall.gov.au/

Register your number. If you still get calls, tell the telemarketer you have registered for Do Not Call and it is illegal for them to continue to call your number. Get them to state: their name, the company they represent, and who their manager is and that you wish to speak to him/her. Should scare them a little bit.

Not sure if many people knows. Started from Sep ie this week, all mobile phone numbers are now open to marketers (before was only landline) so registered all my numbers in "do not call". Before your number was immune for 5-7 years, now is for good.

      • Thank you. I have now registered all our phone numbers. But it is my experience the Do Not Call Register means nothing overseas.

I've been getting a few call from these guys. Each time I told them that Im not interested and today I told them to take me off their database or list and she apologised and said would do. So will see if i get called next week. :P

Last time a got a survey call, they asked for my age before commencing the actual questions, I told them I was 10yo. Needless to say, I did not qualify so she ended the call. Hopefully this takes me off their list and they won't call again 8 years later.

  • For Android phones, there is an app which I use call 'Call Blacklist'.
It's free, and it allows you to block calls and text messages simply by adding numbers from your call log.
No need to save telemarketing numbers in your phone anymore.

I wouldn't know what the iOS equivalent would be though; try searching in the App Store for 'Call Blacklist' or similar search items such as call blocker, number blocker, etc.

    HTH.

    • Dunno if it's Samsung-specific but I have a built-in "reject list". Has a limit of 100 though.

Have you actually asked them to remove your details from all their databases and not to contact you again? or have you said other things like "not interested". Those 2 sentences mean completely different things.

I picked it up and put it on speaker (which I hate because it distracts me from driving and endangerous others

so don't pick it up, jesus

    • Could be the missus, in which case Im in a worse position haha

      • You should have her numbers in your phone by now…have a look under "the boss".

Shes a sweetheart. Loves to surprise me during the day especially with grocery shopping for hand cream, body scrub and paw paw ointment

When they ask me to do a survey, I ask "how much are you paying". They "nothing". Me "goodbye". I've never had one ring back (that I know of).

About 20 years back one guy offered to take me to lunch when I said "How much are you paying". He was one of our suppliers at work. It was a good lunch.

  • i had unsolicited calls from winter vacation. On my blocked list now

  • Profanity Accor Hotels.

They are only calling because, you, gave your number out to somewhere sometime in the past.

I used to work for a bank and cold called all day.
People would whinge and hissyfit and swear, I would get a laugh
then, I would put them back in the system for a call in another week or two,
or in a month when they wouldn't recognise the number, for me or my colleagues to call:)

    Especially to rude people.

You have to specifically say "put me on your do not call register / list".

    LOL

I know why companies do it, but if someone in the street told me to f-off. I'd go out of my way to avoid them again, as they probably don't want anything to do with me.

    • thanks, will try it next time they ring
