Hyundai Santa Fe - opinion?

I'm looking to buy a new or used Hyundai Santa Fe (base model) for my growing family of 5. I'm mainly incline to have this car for it's safety features, space and economy.

I would appreciate if you share your:

  • experience with this car

  • any issues that I need to be aware of or reconsider my decision

  • recommendations of any other similar car within a price range of $40K or less

Thank you for your time in sharing.

  • Also consider:
Kia Sorento is the same car underneath as Santa Fe (same mechanicals, etc, just different body and interior)
Kia has 7 year warranty, that started in 2014, so even a 1 year used will still have 6 years warranty.

I'd recommend that you consider the Ford Territory.

Despite being one of the largest SUVs around, it performs and handles like a car, unlike the boaty nature of other SUVs in its class, being based on the Falcon.

The petrol inline 6 engine has way more power than the Hyundai, but can be quite thirsty depending on how you drive. The official economy figure is 10.2L/100km combined, but my family's 2011 model Territory has averaged 11.3L/100km after 60000km in daily Sydney peak hour trips. Comparatively, the turbo diesel version uses 8.2L/100km.

You can get a brand new auto petrol TX model for $36k. The diesel is about $38k.

As above. Biggest back seat in the class, easy fit 3 child seats. Also recommend the diesel model just purely for the economy.

I'm a Holden salesman and I bought a territory for the Mrs and our 2 kids. Nuff said?

  • I recently bought a used santa fe highlander 2013 DM 2.2 turbo diesel.

suburban driving is pretty good but the highway driving feels much better.

space and size is great, second row of seats slide for better access and leg room for the 3rd row when you need it.

I mainly use it as a 5 seater and the ample boot space is great.

fuel economy I thought should be better on any car don't take the official figures as bible because your driving style, load and a whole host of stuff affects these figures.

I'm doing currently 9lt/100 but that's doing only city driving and very little highway and motorway driving.

    • How much did you pay for santa fe highlander 2013 DM 2.2 turbo diesel?

      • 40,000 with 30k on the clock

        It was built 10/2013
