    Not a bargain, but convenient.

  • Anyone know if it applies to things already on special?

    • Yes, it is ontop of any prior discount.

      • +2

        Thanks.

Also, looks like all online prices have the discount applied, so you can see a fairly full listing of the bargain-bargains (already on special + 20% off) by browsing through here:

        http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvds-on-sale.htm

First obvious example, all 5 seasons of Angel for $87.20 so about $17.50 each.

        • +2

wait so tv shows are included too??? if sooo WHOOOO!!!! NCIS AND HOUSE HERE I COME!!!

  • +1

Not bad for someone in the market for some DVDs.

    • Think I will finally get those English cult classics I have wanted for sooo long!

  • sweet thanks! its every dvd!

    EDITED:

    My purchases (dvd) after discount-

Thanks to the OP, now my credit card is maxed but I'm happy :). (mrs will find out tonight though) ;)

  • +1

Actually this is a bargain if you purchase right … last time they did this a lot of their 'on sale' DVDs were 20% off too, making them below wholesale cost, which is a great bargain - essentially if its got one of their yellow 'sale' price stickers on it, and your getting 20% off it, its below wholesale!

  • Thanks, nice deal.

  • Great Deal.

    • wait so tv shows are included too??? if sooo who!!!!

  • Anyone know what is the purchase limit?

  • does this include blurays? or just dvds?

[edit] ignore my comment - the advert specifically says blurays too!

  • Yay, blu rays too! :)

  • +1

great deal. Time to make use of the gift vouchers I got 10% cashback on. =]

  • +1

Does this mean the 2for1 bluray offer also included? so it is 20% off on top of the 2for1 total price ?

    • I was wondering this too, I'd assume no, but then again, who knows? The website is simply showing all prices reduced by the 20% (I've checked against prices I already knew) so if it's the same in store, then you may still be able to get 3 for 2 at the reduced price.

      • I was in JB on the weekend and they said the last day for that buy 2 blurays get 1 free offer was on sunday (just past). So unfortunately not.

        • That's interesting because it is still promoted on their website in a banner on the DVD homepage:

          http://www.jbhifi.com.au/dvd-movies-tv-shows/

          • @sparkles: Yeah I went into the Leichhardt one last Saturday, they said it finished up on the following day. Went into the TGV Sydney one, no 2 for 1 there either. Pretty sure you cant combine offers anyway.

            • +1

@idontneeditbutwhynot: The buy 2 get 1 free blu-ray pages says that Offer Expires Monday 11th Jan 2010 unless otherwise specified, and since the 20% off ends on the 10th Jan, you should be able to combine offers.

              • @ozhunter: Awesome! Can you tell me where I could find this information in print?

                • @Adamiam: All sign of the buy 2 get 1 free blu rays were gone in two JB's I went to today. It's finito.

                  • @sparkles: but is it expired, or just under the wraps? ;)

  • Super sweet!

  • Nice work, jmstylz. I just happened across "the Samurai" (Shintaro - season 1) which I loved as a child. Haven't seen that one for a long, long time! Shame the 20% off doesn't apply to pre-orders.

  • The think I don't like about JB-HIFI is that the prices on dvds can vary between stores. EG. A tv series set is $20 at one JB store. Whilst the same title is $30 at another JB store.

You just have to be in the right JB store at the right time to catch the bargains. I know I have purchased quiet a few bargains at JB myself.

  • Great Deal!! Just went out during lunch and bought the Blu-ray 2 disk set "The Dark Knight" for $15.98!!! Bargain!!

    • That's a good deal, was it already on special because blu-rays are generally $25-35?

      • +2

Yes it was already discounted to $19.98 and after the 20% off it's $15.98. Normally 2 blank blu-ray disk would already cost that much. That's why I think it's a steal!

  • +1

I'm thinking of buying The Office (USA) first 4 seasons box set for $63.36. :)

I had purchased the 1-5 seasons box set for $80 from Assorted Goods website, but the guy was nice enough to provide a refund based on potential pirated stock information. So 1-4 for $63 from JB HiFi i'm pretty happy with.

The other option is to get Season 1-3 set from Amazon UK for AUD$30 delivered, then get Season 4 pt1&2 from JB for $28.80. Totalling $58.80 for seasons 1-4. But Season 4 is not in stock at JB, nor is it at Amazon UK for some reason.

On Amazon USA, this 1-4 set is USD$135, lol. But they've got the 1-5 set for USD$89. With shipping and conversion, it's AUD$110. Not worth the extra $47 to get Season 5. Especially seeing as S5 seperately is USD$22.50 at Amazon US, AUD$35 shipped.

So i'm going to get the 1-4 from JB, and then get S5 down the track. For those interested in getting 1-5 now, it's AUD$98 for the cheapest option.

    • +1

Yeah, get the JB box if you can find it instock … Season 1-4 set rrp is $119.95 - buying it for $63.36 is $20 under wholesale cost … bargain!!

As for Assorted Goods - yeah, pirated … noticed him selling a complete 'South Park' box set = no such thing ever released, except for our of China :/

    • I'd like to get this too. I looked today, some of the seasons are broken up into two parts so I definitely think the Amazon UK deal is so cheap it's not funny. Hilarious show.

      • Yeah the $30 for seasons 1-3 from Amazon UK is so cheap.
I'm willing to pay the extra $33 to get season 1-4 boxed set, cause S4 on it's own is pretty pricey cause it's in 2 parts, plus it's not available several places as mentioned.

        • Forgot to mention I also never saw any sign of Season 4 or a box set for that matter. Just S1, S2 and S3 in their respective bits.

          • @sparkles: Online via JB the 1-4 set is $79.20, here:
            http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvd-genres/tv/the-office-…
Where are you finding it for $63.36?

            • @sparkles: That's obviously taking off 20%. It is most likely already discounted to that price though so its not $79.20 less 20%, it's $79.20 with 20% already off.

              • @TheWiz: Certainly makes the Amazon UK deal look good. I ordered it, the S1-3 set came to $29.86 delivered. Crazy.

                • @sparkles: Oh bummer about the online prices already reflecting the 20% off. I guess i'll go for the S1-3 from AmazonUK too. Will go into JB store tomorrow just to check.
I'll get S4 and 5 down the track.

  • Do the online prices http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd.htm
    reflect the 20% off?
It looks like some titles do while others don't.

    • I would also like to know this. Confused as to wether the online prices with 'sale' icons are 20% off, or just a normal sale (without the additional 20% applied)

      • I think the JB online prices do include the 20% discount already.

The Wire is $19.98 in store and this page reflects this price and a price with a 20% reduction…

        http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvds-on-sale/the-wire-on-…

        • Reckon your right, although it seems odd as the deal is usually instore only.

The Wire & Dark Knight Bluray are both on trade-wide promo for $24.95 rrp - JB are selling these @ $19.98, which is slighly above cost price. Rurouni above bought Dark Knight for $15.98 so by that logic, the 'on sale' items online are with 20% discount.

Another example - seasons of Bewitched: trade-wide promo @ $19.95 rrp - JB selling @ $15.98 … online they are 'on sale' at $12.78, which is 20% less. Plus all the 'on sale' items have an end date of 11/1, which is the Monday after the discount ends.

  • Went to buy the Boston Legal Boxset today since I was in the city, none of the JB's have stock =[

  • Woo Band of Brothers for $26 bought today :-D :-D

    • Below trade cost = bargain! :)

    • and on bluray for $40 but not online.

      • yeah Band of Brothers Bluray is $50 less 20% in store…tempting but can it be found cheaper overseas ?

  • Snapped up The Tudors S1-3 Blu Ray JB Exclusive ($95.00 from $120.00) as well as Flight of the Conchords DVD S2 ($20.00 from $25.00) plus a couple of cheapies.

There were quite a few excellent deals as there were still sale stickers on a lot of stock. Can confirm The Dark Knight, Batman Begins and all the Harry Potters Blu Rays were still priced at $19.98 which takes them down to about $16.00 each.

  • +2

Just got home from visiting a few JB Hifis. Got a heap of Blurays at awesome prices.

    Best ones:
    Band of Brothers Boxset $40.
    Planet Earth Boxset $60
    The Bourne Trilogy $52
    The Mummy Trilogy $52
    March of the Penguins $12
+ heaps of other movies for ~$16 and ~$20, discounted from ~$20 and ~$25.

There are quite a few already discounted, which are most of the ones I picked up. I only picked up a few that weren't already on sale. Sux that all of them weren't on sale cause as with JB Hifi pricing some of the old movies are still at $30-$40, so it's only really worth it to pick up the ones that are already on sale.

    • Nice deals - the Planet Earth set is a keeper. And agree about some of the pricing, I'm wanting Ferris Bueller but it is still priced at nearly $40 and even with 20% off is still too expensive. Dirty Dancing has recently increased from about $18 to $35!

      • Just noticed that the Bourne and Mummy Trilogy's are $55.20 online. So it's a few dollars cheaper in store for those. Of the single blu-rays I looked at in store they were the same price online.

Btw if anyone is after the Band of Brothers boxsets in WA, Cannington is sold out. I got mine from Myaree, they got one from out the back, there were none on the shelf. I forgot to look at Carousel so not sure if they have any, but when I asked at Cannington they said they've sold a lot recently, so might not be any at Carousel either as I'm sure if someone was after one at Cannington they'd go down the road and try to get one.

I was about to jump on the Matrix bluray boxset too, but decided to check Amazon UK first.

Good thing I did, because I ended up getting Matrix trilogy, Bourne trilogy, and the Italian Job for $75 AUD delivered.

JB deal is good, but Amazon still better.

    • mate, you could have got most trilogies from Amazon UK. so much cheaper. eg: 18 pounds inc delivery for bourne set. about 40$ i think ?

      • Yeah, dvd.co.uk has all this A LOT cheaper, excluding some of the odd ones like the batman one. I guess JB is just more convenient.

        http://www.dvd.co.uk/DVD/The-Office-An-American-Workplace-Se…
        Approx. $31.50 delivered.

        • A quick search shows The Bourne Trilogy is GBP33.49 on there, that's $58. I'm sure there's other that are cheaper though.

I'm a bit hesitant to buy blurays from overseas, dunno why but I prefer to have the australian releases. Plus I'd rather not have to pay return shipping in case an item is damaged etc.

          • @TheWiz: For The Office, you can purchase 2 for less than the price of an AUS one. You have just reminded me of something, blu-rays are a pain when it comes to region coding compared to DVD's, but after looking at this ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes ), there shouldn't be any issues.

  • +1

try searching amazon uk for Bluray. Usually provide very competitive prices. My matrix trilogy was 14.03 pounds and bourne trilogy was 15.22 pounds. Italian job was 8.49 pounds. Shipping was only about 4 pounds.

The uk is the same region as australia, so unless it's a US import then the disc will work.

  • I just got back from JB Hi Fi. A lot of titles were way more expensive in store (30-50%) than the website shows, and when I asked if the store would match the online prices 2 different staff said no as the website often has different prices to stores and there is a freight charge ordering online.

In the end I got the following Blu-Rays:
    Serenity $16
    Harry Potter 2 $16
    Fantastic 4 (1 and 2) $32

There were heaps more I would have got, if the store prices matched the online prices. I was really only looking at movies under $20 per movie..

UPDATE: just went to another store to get more Blu-Rays:
    Harry Potter 3 $16
    Harry Potter 4 $16
    Harry Potter 5 $16
    Matrix 2 $16
    Matrix 3 $16
    Hancock $16
    Forgetting Sarah Marshall $16
    Casino Royal (James Bond) $16
    Transformers 2 $20
    Sahara $21.60
    Mummy Trilogy $52

    Now if only I owned a Blu-Ray player……….. my Popcorn Hour C-200 is still on order… :(

    • we found the same thing in terms of different prices on the website.
Wanted the Rocky Blu Ray set. $71.20 online, but $115 less 20% instore. Thats a difference of $20 after the discount, and they would not match their online price. Would have just brought it online, but states they are out of stock…

  • Wow pretty cheap DVDs,

Does anyone know if JB offer free shipping with paypal?

    • They had that deal around a week ago; I'm pretty sure it's expired now, though.

  • Was in JB today, and all they had in the Office series was Season 1, Season 2 Pt2, one of the parts of season 3 (i think), and Season 4 Pt1. No box sets at all.
I guess i will head to Amazon.

They had Sopranos seasons for $75 each, bloody expensive.

Didn't buy anything. Would have bought Flight of the Conchords S2 for $20, but i got it for Xmas. :)

  • Got the box set of The Office (Season one to four) for $80.70 (amex surcharge included) at JB Hi Fi Macquarie today. Theres a few there. Was down from $99 and strange enough some box sets were marked as $119.

  • Does anyone know how long it takes for out of stock items on there online store to come back into stock?

    I bought Roughly

Inglorious Bastards (Tin Blu-ray) for $27.
    The Nanny Season 2 - $10.
    Lethal Weapon 1 & 2(Blu-Ray) - $12 each.
    I am Legend (Blu-Ray) - $16.

Ordered The Nanny season 1 & 3 online however they are out of stock =.=.

    • Yes, I'd like to know peoples experiences with this too. There is a couple of sets I would like that are out of stock. It is strange when the online store is out of stock when you have seen multiple copies instore.

      • They ship from the victorian warehouse I think.

I had to order online since none in store.

  • I went today to their The Strand store and scored:

    I am Sam $5.58 ($6.98)
    The Godfather 1 - $10.38 ($12.98)
    The Godfather 2 - $10.38 ($12.98)
    The Godfather 3 - $10.38 ($12.98) and;
    Seinfeld Box Set - $116 ($145)

    Bargain! thanks OP!

    • good buys but also don't forget to vote + for this deal.

      • srry meant to pos that lol not neg..

  • +1

oops! done! thanks for reminding me! :-)

  • Not always the cheapest even with 20% off

    The Cosby Show Each Series
    Jb Hi-Fi - $17.59
    EZYdvd - $14.97
    BIG W - $12.87

    • The Nanny Each Series

      EZYdvd - $49.97 (Season 3 $39.97)
      Big W - $42.70 (Season 3 $34.17)
      JB Hi-Fi - $10.38

Huge saving for me, I think it's really dependant on what you want.

  • Not bad at all, just a shame my local store was missing stock on a lot things I wanted.

Maybe coincidence or that they'd just sold out of what I wanted but I know they had ample stock just a week ago before the sale and now its gone. Maybe I'm too paranoid.

Some great bargains to be had.

  • I think it was most likely sold, JB attracts a huge amount of shoppers and the point of the sale was stocktake so they WANTED to move stock. If you go to the store at the Galleries Victoria, you'll see that they have boxes up to your shoulders, ready to go on the floor when they have the room.

  • Bought:
    Stanley Kubrick Director's Series - $47
Pretty good deal if you ask me…

  • g12345567, the Cosby Show was actually $10.38 after discount. I bought 4 seasons of it as it was really funny.

  • +1

Just noticed if you load up your cart while the sale is on, you will still get the cheap price even after the sale has ended!

  • Bought BR: Fight Club, Underworld Evolution, and DVD Quantum Leap S2-3 for less than $60. What a bargain!
