Is This Bike a Good Deal?

Hi Mountain Bike Experts,

What is your opinion on this bike?

I can get some discount on this as well.

Also throw some light on the below model. It has got dual suspension.

Budget is from 1000 - 1500. I will use it for offroading only and about 2 times a month. I'm not a professional racer.

Cheers!!!

  • are you just offroading/tracking or going hills/drops?

Specialized Rockhopper - a bit of overkill. but if you have the coin then go for it.

Dual suspension- I've avoided it for offroading/mountain biking. it makes the bike too "springy" - IMO.

I like Avanti. my 07 ridge rider is still going strong. though the BB is crapped out and needs replacing- along with the chain (well just needs a damn good clean)and the front brakes need new pads (rather than putting in a shiv).

    • Basically off-roading. Having said that if there are some hills and drops across Mundabifi track then I won't mind doing that.

  • +1

The hardtial with 10spd has much better gear on it. The dually has entry level gear only.

Personally I ride a dually and have done for a while. I rode a hardtial a couple of years ago, and while it was fine for short rides I find the dually better for longer days out. I haven't spent any decent amount of time on anything other than a 26" bike though.

For your budget I'd stick to a hardtial, or a second hand dually.

What dsort of off road are you talking about? Tight and technical or open fire trails. For open fire trails a hardtial is fine, for more techy stuff the 29er wheel size compromises the handling of the bike adding weight and slowing the steering response.
