Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter $35 @ Officeworks

160

Hard to call any adapter from Apple a bargain, but this one seems to be $45 or more everywhere else, and it's genuine.

Click & collect or pickup in store if they have stock. Or you could get delivery for about $6 (metro areas I assume).

These are terrible compared to a similar Chinese usb to Ethernet adapter from eBay. If you need or want to disconnect or sleep your Mbp pro they disconnect requiring a reboot. The Chinese one just works after you plugin, while this one doesn't. It also cost about 3x more,

    Forget it…

There have been numerous videos on YouTube showing what's actually inside Apple's cables over the years, compared to what's inside cheaper cables, and the cheaper cables are almost always flimsy, single wires compared to more robust setup in Apple cables. Furthermore, people have died from fire and explosions from cheaper cables. Having to restart after plugging in a Thunderbolt adapter should not be required unless running Microsoft Windows as Windows does not support plug and play Thunderbolt (OS X does.) Most Windows computers do not have Thunderbolt ports.

      • It's not fair to mention explosions about Chinese anything and forget to also mention those same people were utterly stupid and mixing electricity and water. I'm not trying to defend Chinese anything but let's be fair and not sensationalist.

If I knew were my thunderbolt adapter was I might make a video, but in my personal experience it didn't just work. I'm just suggesting that readers perhaps do a little research before buying.

I don't think that's right. I use one with my MBPr and never need to restart when plugging in/out or after I close/open the screen.

But you're right about the price. I would probably get a USB to Ethernet adapter next time.

Here's a fantastic article about Apple Ethernet adapters versus Chinese adapters.
It should be very clear from this article what you are exactly paying 3x more for.

I'm still waiting for the 56.6Kbps modem version…

Seriously - an adapter to have a wired connection? The least they could do is supply one with the computer.

    • It an Apple product, they are known for profiting on accessories.

Ethernet is for geriatric Windows users.
No wonder Apple is double the market value of Microsoft

      • Huh? Ethernet isn't Windows specific. Its a general networking interconnect.

It used to be $35 before the price increase earlier this year.

  • Is it same as below:
