Comparison of Forex for Travellers

Table of exchange rates with different cards

I've created a table of various travel cards versus traditional bank cards, as well as the Citibank Plus and 28 Degree cards.
It's compared the rates which are found on XE.com, and the figures were accurate as of 9th September 2015, between 1-2pm.

From the table, Citibank and 28 Degrees offered the best rates, with the travel cards charging significantly more. The Australian Post Travel Passport being the most expensive choice.
Loading fees, monthly fees, etc weren't taken into account because different cards charge for different things.

I'm not sure what happened to the NZD/AUD exchange rate there. There must've been some fluctuation within the hour I compiled the table.

tl;dr Bring a Citibank Plus debit card or 28 Degree credit card with you when you travel. (In case you didn't already know)

  • Thanks.

  • Nice compilation. Keep in mind small variations like the CBP and 28 Deg can occur within minutes. So that will answer why sometimes CBP is higher/lower than 28Deg.

And whenits that close they are almost the same

Thank you, its something wrth linking to so when friends ask its easy to see the differences

Would be interesting to see what the Coles Mcard rate is given its now free of FX fees

  • Looking to hedge some risk for a trip to Japan in Jan/Feb, any tips on best options for getting currency in Melbourne? Already have a CBP card but worried about a drop in the dollar.

    • Buy half now, half later?
