iPhone 6S Failed to Impress. Does Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Work on Telstra 4G?

Hey guys,

What a load of bs from Apple..I know I shouldn't be expecting much since it's the S model but seriously come on haha…

Anyway I want to change from 5s to XiaoMi RedMi Note 2 and wondering if the Prime version will work on Telstra/Optus 4g. I read some previous forums before and saw people saying that it's missing a few bandwidth which will result a slower 4g network. Is this true? (I'm with Telstra)

Thanks

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 2:

    4G bands: LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 7(2600), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)

Comparing to 4G connectivity in Australia, where for Telstra it uses:

    Frequency Band Notes
700 28 Trialling with early access granted. License starts 31 December 2014.
    900 8 Announced 20 February 2014 to broaden scope of 4G network
1800 3 Currently operating in Australian capital cities and regional centres
2600 7 Currently operating in selected locations.
  • only 2 matches. not so good i think?

  • Yeah you really want Band 28… which is not easy to get (if possible at all) in Chinese handsets.

  • GSMArena can't be relied on for frequency because there are so many versions of phones these days made for different geographies.
If it is correct though, lack of 700MHz may slow you down but IMHO is not necessarily a deal breaker.
900 may be good to have from 2017 onwards.
And don't forget about 3G bands!

  • I would personally wait for the "Global Version", I believe it has just been launched in India

  • What's the difference between note 2 and note 2 prime? Is it worth the extra couple of bucks to get the Prime version?

I agree that the new iphone 6s is way too expensive for my budget, will probably give this phone a try.

    • Pretty sure they only difference in the prime version is that is has 2x internal storage and the cpu is clocked 0.2 ghz higher.

  • Dont you like animated gifs?
