Accent ($16k), Polo ($17k), Mazda 2 ($17k) vs... ?

I am chasing a new car… my trusty 1997 Hyundai Coupe's clutch has finally given in! Never thought the ol' girl would die.

Looking for a similar replacement:
+ Small (must have rear doors)
+ Cheap
+ Reliable as can be

Where would your money go?

might as well spend 3k more and get a cerato S.

      • Depends on the OPs budget….but yes good choice.

The Mitsubishi Mirage seems to be a goer too, 5yrs @ $13 000.

I'm tossing up between the two now.

      • +1. Cerato is 19K with free Auto upgrade.

        • Genuinely curious: In what way does the Cerato offer $6k more value.

        • @sletts: If you feel Corolla is better than Yaris or i30 is better than i20, then Cerato is better in value. For extra $6k you will get one of the better valued mainstream cars in next segment.

    Noooo not the Hyundai Acc(id)ent!

  • You should also look at other costs associated with these cars eg insurance and servicing. These can make a huge difference to the cost if ownership.

    How about a Barina?

    • Do not get a Barina. They're only lasting 5 years til major problems, not to mention the value the hold…..

    Get a Suzuki Swift.

    • This. Should be at the top of your list compared to those.

There's good reason they only lose about $1500/yr in depreciation.

Mazda 2 - read the reviews

have a look at autoexpert .com .au

    • Yes. This.

      • Mazda 2 ere day, twice on sunday. I'd actually go a CX3 to be honest.

    4 door Yaris for $16-$18k

    • Six monthly servicing :(

Capped price for 3 years at $130, so $260 a year.

But two visits a year is annoying when you really should only need one.

  • How much is a new clutch?

    • With Hyundai tax, about $600 fitted for the last one I got…IIRC the clutch kit was $450 alone! Like many Korean cars, the manufacturer uses the inkjet printer business model to boost revenue. :/

      • Front wheel drive?

        • Yup, a Sonata…it was a few years ago though, dunno if the prices have remained static over the years, but I'll never have another Korean car for this reason…well, that and the shoddy overall build quality.

          What's a clutch?

But seriously, how much did you expect a clutch to cost?

        • @tonyjzx: Seriously, are you paid to be this clueless, or is it just a free public service???
