Auspost Related Question on Delivery

Hola Ozb,

I have a question related to AusPost delivery. I've been getting cards to collect my parcels from the post office in my post box. However, I have been home on most of those days (if I wasn't, one of my friends were home always). But postie didn't knock on the door to see whether we were inside to deliver the parcel at all. Instead, we only see the parcel card in our post box when we check it in the evening.

I was on the understanding that postie is supposed to deliver small parcels right? At least, I'm used to getting parcels in my previous address. I understand that excess size parcels may be withheld at the post office for collection but the parcels I'm talking about were small.

What do you guys think?

  • Small parcels should be delivered by the posty and larger parcels should be delivered by an Auspost contractor in one of those red vans.

should is they keyword here. Unfortunately the postys and contractors can be as lazy as heck and simply can't be bothered knocking on the door. If it bothers you then I suggest submitting a complaint via the feedback form on the Auspost website. It may or may not have any effect, but it's worth a try.

I had the same thing happen to me and after a couple of complaints to both Auspost and the local post office, I have a feeling the contractor(s) got a kick up the butt and now seem to be doing their job properly.

    • thanks a lot for the reply bonezAU, I thought so too because I used to receive all kinds of parcels at my previous address which made me inquire.

  • Happens to us all the time, it's so annoying. Not sure whether the Postie has the parcels with him/her and is too lazy to walk up the stairs, or the parcels go straight to the post office and the Postie just delivers the card. Either way it is unacceptable!

    • so true, it becoming rather annoying and to top it off, there ain't any stairs to my apartment either, it's on the ground floor duh!

    • I guess that's a good option, thanks for that charlie. My parcels usually come from sellers so I kinda don't have any control over who gets to deliver though!

    • I used mailman. Great price compared to AusPost
Online tracker showed it was not picked up for 2 days from the Officeworks locker.

Took out extra insurance which requires a signature. Ticked required box on label.

When delivered it was left unsigned on front door step !
Complained online. Didn't get answered for 2 weeks after, waiting to see what happens. No apology yet though for crap service.

  • +2

Had the same issue for ages, complained to Australian post - they said they had informed the postie's manager but that didnt sort help.
Finally on christmas, I got a 2$ gift (via Ozbargain offer) and gave it to him personally thanking him for his service. Since then have been getting my parcels getting delivered.

  • They're hopeless. Complained about them numerous times but still getting the slips. i gave up.

There's a positive side to this though, eBay sellers will be happy for you to pickup the item at the post office and sign for the parcel - preventing clowns from claiming parcel was not received.
