Optus XPERIA D2005 unlocked but locked

Hi All,

I picked up one of Optus' Sony Xperia D2005's recently listed in mobile deals. It is a low end smart phone which was to replace a broken ALDI/ Aldimobile used by one of the lesser technically inclined family members. She makes fewer than 10 mobile calls a year :-)

Anyhoo, checking the phone on Optus's site confirms it is networked un-locked. There was an Optus SIM with the phone, which I activated.

However, when I place the ALDIMobile SIM into the phone it wants a network unlock code. I re-confirmed with Optus that the phone is not network locked.

I also paid 25 to some unlock mob in Sydney; I have just received a message that they are unable to get an unlock code for the phone and are refunding the $25.00

Anyone here know I might get around this?

Take it to an Optus store, and show them your problem.

Thanks. I live out in the scrub, about 160k from the nearest Optus Shop. Maybe next time I go to the Big Smoke if it isn't sorted…

  • If it was sold as "unlocked" you should get a replacement or refund.

  • You would be getting around this by installing custom software using an app like SEtools and then doing a network unlock. I'm trying to do the same thing but gave up as I couldn't get SeTools to work. Someone mentioned on the original deal that this phone might not use the right spectrum for Telstra, so I stopped trying.
