Gaming Laptops and Internet Speed

Hi,

I just wanted to find out how Gaming laptops and Internet Speed affect my gaming…

So, I want to buy a new gaming laptop so that I can play games like Tera with decent/good graphic settings BUT I currently use my university net (live on campus) which is quite slow sometimes when loading videos but can be very fast when torrenting (like 3MB/sec)…

I want to find out how the laptop/internet speed affects my gaming, if I use a good laptop with bad net, can I run Tera properly? If I use good net with a bad laptop, what happens?

Notes:

I did a internet speed test on speedtest.net and I got the result of…

DL Speed: 28.72Mbps
UL Speed: 512.45 Mbps

For MMORPGs and other online games, It's not the bandwidth that matters, it's actually the ping. High ping means you'll experience rubberbanding issues and your inputs / actions will have significant delays.

You need to do a ping test or Traceroute to Tera's servers and find out what the ping is. 0~50ms is excellent, 60~80 is good and 100ms or more is generally terrible

Unfortunately you'll need to find out yourself what the IP addresses for TERA's servers are. Visit the forums here and ask.

CPU and GPU performance affects framerates (frames per second), TERA does require a reasonably high spec mobile CPU/GPU, that's for you to figure out too. However, it does not affect ping and network latency.

    • So assuming the game runs fine now (as in its not freezing/delaying actions), when I get a better computer, I should be able to raise the graphics in the game and it should run the same

    Awesome upload speed.

    • does that help anything?

  • Which uni allows torrenting on their network?

    • Pretty much all? Unless they want to ban all P2P traffic. Which includes skype. ..

    • torrenting with a VPN :D
