Best Places to Search for a New PC?

My pc has died, it struggled for a long time.

So where is the best place to buy a pc? MSY and PCcasegear (i think) ring a bell but I would like to check with ozbargainers to see if there is somewhere better or at least on par with the previously mentioned.

Thanks in advance.

p.s budget is around 1200, a bit of mild gaming (more hearts of iron/grand strategy over the FPS games) specs would be nice but nothing to luxurious.

MSY is good for dirt cheap parts with dirt cheap customer service.

You should be able to get a pretty good machine for $1,200. I assume you'll just be recycling your old peripherals.

If you want a no-frills, easy approach — I'd look at the following builds on PC Part Picker and do up a shopping list for MSY.

If you're in sydney, you can also try out ARC. They usually have similar prices except slightly better customer service when compared to MSY.

    for bang for buck builds

and just a note , unless you are are getting a massive saving on certain parts
getting parts from 1 store beats buying stuff from multiple stores for warranty/ returns and getting all parts at once!.

http://www.staticice.com.au/ to compare price on parts.

  • http://www.computeronline.com.au is very good, they'll build it for you at no extra cost and have COD as a payment option if you're worried about spending so much online. Their prices are good too.

PC Case Gear is very reliable and trustworthy, but their pre-builts aren't so cheap (high quality though) and they don't do custom builds anymore.

Scorptec is very good too, I bought my current custom built PC from them. Their website allows you to pick all your components and before you buy one of their guys will check your build to make sure everything's compatible and offer any suggestions for changes. Quick build and delivery too, I had mine within about four or five working days.

I've bought PC's and parts from all these three and have always been happy with the result.

UMART is also a good place to buy from. Prices slightly above MSY, but they have an equally large assortment of parts.

They now serve NSW. Shop is in West Ryde.

  • If you're ok with second hand, try gumtree.

  • I always recommend doing some research on www.reddit.com/r/buildapc, using Tom's CPU and GPU comparison charts (google that) to pick CPU/GPU, and then putting together a build using pcpartpicker.

Can't hurt to check prices on staticice.com.au on the most expensive pieces, and if you can get all or most of it from one place for a few dollars more, do it.

I like to find a local place like ARC or MSY I can take parts to for warranty, but I've almost never needed to.
