Unlocked (or Easily Unlckd) Sub $150 Phone 4 Mum

Can someone recommend an unlocked, sub $150 phone for me – Android based.
My mum keeps buying $50 to $90 pieces of crap and they break etc.

Any idea what is good – maybe even sub $200 if need be?
Her last one was an iphone clone, awful thing, rear camera AWFUL front camera non existent.

I understand at that price range you won't get a high end phone but I figure there might be some good / weird / amazing deals found on OzBargain now and then.
NOTE: Locked is ok if the unlock process is super dead easy.

Thanks.

(I am partially considering a used iphone 4s or something maybe too?? Dunno)

The Huawei is probably the go to based on the other posts on this site…

2nd hand moto x 2nd gen or nexus 4? I was looking around before and found some for around $200.

  • Stay well away from used. The only used mobiles I would accept are those that are free from family and friends.

Who knows where strangers have used their phones.

And given all phones have vibrate settings these days…

I just upgraded from iphone 4 to 6s. They offered me $45 trade-in.
I will keep it for when my daughter drops hers (happens fairly frequently)
Just thought I'd mention it for the $$ value

$45? That's an insult, better to keep it.

  • If you can stretch to $200, and are flexible on the "Android based" requirement (and as you're considering an iphone 4s I assume you are), you could try the Lumia 640 windows phone from mobileciti. https://www.mobileciti.com.au/microsoft-lumia-640-4g-black-t It's $199 delivered and Australian stock. It's got an 8mp rear camera and a front camera designed for skype calls.

They're generally considered decent phones for the price - certainly better than the nastier end of the android range. The main downside to windows phones is there isn't the same range of apps available - but they've got most of the key mainstream apps, which may be enough for your mum.

  • what does your mum use her phone for?

    obviously calls.

    texting? internet? games? etc

    • All of the above, I'd like to snap chat video chat with her sometimes

  • May end up giving her my old Galaxy S3 instead, just wanna find the best firmware (official) for it instead :/ save hassles.

    Cheers all (sorry!)
