Sony Xperia Compact Z5, Z3, Z1? What and When?

Do I wait until the Z5 compact comes out to pick up a clearance Z3 compact or do I get a Z1 compact before they all run out because it is great value for money and for $100+ less than a Z3, there is not much difference in features?
Sony have been okish in supporting old Z series phones with android upgrades.

Z3 the way to go… Also comes with bonus optional cracking of screen…..

How frequent is this though? It makes for exciting news much like the last bendy iPhone.
I know some of the previous models had occasional issues, but for the Z3 most sounded like they were the result of mishandling eg arse-pocket sat on a rock, type issue.

        had a z1 and z3
        no issues

had heard of bad stories of cracking but touch wood its been ok

have dropped the phone a few times too!

      • Over at whirlpool there is a nice threead on this topic about the z series handsets and I read a lot of problems with cracking of screen which isn't a shatter but a hair line crack and its known world wide.

As a poster below mentioned its a known issue from the z1 but Sony have not done anything about it.

Also I have read that a warrenty claim is hard to win for this issue.

On to water proofing well read the fine print and Sony say that fresh water is the only water they guarantee the proofing on but anything else is a no, which if your rubbery bits don't seal right then good luck as its easier to get blood from a stone.

    • had mine close to a year and no actual cracking, though I had a tempered glass cover (the best phone accessory to have imo) that was shattered badly, once i changed it the phone was back like new and still going.

    • Not sure why you're getting negged since it's the truth.

I've had the z3 compact since the first day release. My screen hasn't cracked yet, but the screen recently popped out of the case (which I had to superglue back in).

Apart from that, I love it.

  • As an owner of a Sony Mobile Z1 Ultra I recommend to avoid Sony Mobile devices due to the phantom input issue, and the both sides of the device cracking issue. Sony has known about these issues for three device generations and done nothing about it when it is clear their devices have significant design issues.

Or you can ignore this and buy a device that's known to have device ruining faults, your money.

  • I had the Z1 compact, while it was a good phone I just think the screen was too small and battery life was ok (still pretty good), also touch went completely dead after dropping the phone and had a tiny little crack on one corner. (A crack and touch goes dead seems to be a Sony thing, most other phones can still be used even when the screen is mildly cracked)
I'd say the Z3c because the screen is bigger with the same body size, has better batterylife also.

  • Haven't had a look at the specs for the z5, but I've had the z3 compact for the past year and love it. Quality of taking photos in low light isn't the greatest, but other than that I don't have any issues!

  • I previously had the Z1, which cracked in my pocket, but Sony were good enough to repair it under warranty. I've also had a Z3 and had no issues with it and the only reason i switched back to Iphone was because of work
