Flights from Vancouver -> Melbourne -> Sydney -> Vancouver

Hey,

I'm currently in Canada and have a slightly complex trip I'd like to make in October. I'm visiting a conference in Melbourne on the 24th and 25th of October.

I'd greatly appreciate any help from you all if possible…

I need to go from Vancouver to Melbourne - I need to arrive before the 24th of October.

I then need to go from Melbourne to Sydney on the 26th or so.

From there I need to go from Sydney to Vancouver on the 30th.

If you guys know of good travel agents that you think this is better suited to, I'd be glad to contact them instead.

Thanks a lot all

    Two cheap options:

    Option One,

Cathay pacific YVR to Sydney Return $1554AUD Depart 19th of Oct, return 30th of Oct.
You can fly return to Melbourne on the 18th for about the same price.
Return flight from Melbourne to Sydney is under $200AUD with Tigerair (you can get Jetstar to pricebeat by 10% if the flight leaves within an hour of the tigerair flight) (http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/our-guarantees/pr…)

    Price - ~$1754AUD

    Option Two,

Buy a return flight to Honolulu from YVR ($421AUD return from the 19th returning on the 31st)
Then spend a night in Honolulu each way and you'll get to go to hawaii then its $599USD Honolulu to Melbourne with Jetstar on the 20th of October, Under $100AUD with Tigerair Melbourne to Sydney, $419AUD Sydney to Honolulu on the 30th of October.

    Price - ~$1781AUD

If you want to see hawaii then choose option 2, if not choose option 1.
If you cant travel that early add $150-ish onto the price of the return flight from YVR>Australia.

    • Option2 can be cheaper if you book the jetstar flight (HNL-MEL) via expedia.com.au or other similar Australian travel websites (but must come thru on an Australian Ip) It will come out at $A579 vs Jetstar's USD $599 so its 30% cheaper

Have friends coming from US via Jetstar and Hawaii and this saved the same 30%

Booking via Jetstar Hnl to Mel means it is treated as US/NAm customer and charges in USD

      • Wooo thats like a $250 saving ontop of the above!

  • Do you want the cheapest or most direct?

    • I'd like to point out at this point in time that the above Cathay pacific option is like 25 hours on the way there and 22 hours on the way back so thats not too bad. Air Canada's direct service is $2242AUD so total cost would be $2442-ishAUD. (15 hour direct flight)

So if time is an issue there is really no other option besides the direct service but for an additional 9/7 hour transit you could see it as being worth it for a ~$700 saving.

      EDIT:

I have also found a $1698AUD return flight from Melbourne to Sydney (Direct Air Canada service on the outbound trip, 19 hour Air New Zealand flight via Auckland on the way back so thats not too bad!)

      • No 25 hours isn't terrible but they might be happy to pay for direct service if it is for a conference or better still their work may be paying.

The Air New Zealand option would be the next best thing.

  • Tigerair would have to be one of the most unreliable carriers in Australia, for reliability I'd use Qantas, then Virgin, then Jetstar for internal flights in Australia.

    • For a flight like Melbourne to Sydney it really doesn't matter as it is one of the busiest flight routes in the world, flights are running every 15 minutes to two hours so extreme delays are unlikely with any carrier. If you were flying somewhere like Mackay then sure it makes more sense to go with a more reliable carrier if you don't have much time to allow for disruptions.
But in saying this delays can occur with any carrier, in fact my worst delays have both occurred on Qantas. I've had flight cancelations with Jetstar but I have just been re routed via a different city to my final destination.
