Surfers Paradise Activities

Dear Oztightass

I am going with my girlfiend to surfers paradise gold coast. I am still planning on what to do there at sufers paradise. Are there any activities recommended. We are staying for 3 days over the weekend. We don't want to spend too much and any discount activities would be appreciated. We are in our early 20s.

[EXTRA]
I am going from thursday to sunday next week. Can anyone suggest an order of days I should visit Movie world, Wetn'wild and Sea world. Where I can get less queuing lines and more time on the rides and activities.

Thanks bargainers

    1. Clubbing
    2. Surfing
    3. Fighting

Wish I can say I was joking, but I lived in SE QLD for a few years, including during a number of schoolies. Surfers is a tourist trap by day, and a clubbing district by night. There are some nice places to eat, but nothing particularly cheap.

  • Get drunk and fight someone

Take ICE first so that the courts will be lenient on you.

Surf/swim in the morning. Beach walk/ watch sunset on evening then dine around surfers/Broadbeach - like this Spanish tapas place under candle night.Light walk on the beach/walk way/park at night. Quite romantic..

Timezone or walk around surfers at night - lots of theme entertainments (wax museum, F1 experience) get brochures from many information desks/hotel lobbies. Also the entertainment ride park opposite to Outriggers (exHilton hotel) at night - like a miniature Luna Park. Just to look no need to pay/play if you do not want to.

Bush walking in Hinterland land (need transport) or eagle height for breathtaking views. Free tree top walk at O'Reilly.
Try out the new light rail.
Carrara market or one of the markets. Check this
    Shopping outlet in Ashmore.
SeaWorld or one of the theme park. Pre book discount ticket or 3in1 pass.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Currumbin QLD - pre buy discount coupon from ?Groupon/Scoopon. For freebie, visit at 4 to just feed the lorikeets,
Jupiter Casino for dinner/entertainment. You may choose to avoid the actual casino or night spoil.
Look up what's on Gold Coast or visit Gold Coast online to find out more.

PM me if anything you may like to clarify, wish you a wonderful trip and score some brownie points from your girlfriend.
I am not local, but GC is one of my favourite holiday places. Went with my girlfriend then wife many times.
Yours is the sweetest time In life!!!! Money can't buy love.

    • Thanks for your great advice @eatwell365, I have soo many ideas too look forward to now. I will get a 3 in1 pass adn check out the currumbin wildlife.

How about transport around surfers and to and from venues, do you have any suggestions (rental, taxi, shuttle, public transport)?

      • Re 3 in 1 pass deal. Check previous post.
Since you have only 3 days not sure if you will get most value by rush rush. though you can be back anytime.

Re transport, sorry if I am not the best person to ask as , I always hire a car just easier, not too expensive and see more - depend on time of travel. Prepaid your hire car insurance to reduce premium through alliance will be cheaper. Watch out for parking ranger if you do/

        • Thanks, I bought the pass deals from groupon.
Now, I am not sure what is prepaid hire care insurance. Do you care to explain?
And also are there any suggestions for car hire outside gold coast airport?

        • @tradiesunited: I just replied the same to your other thread. Hope it helps.

        • @eatwell365:

Hiring a car is mandatory because places like Currumbin, Tweed or the parks are not within walking distance of each other, and transport in GC is either non-existent or impenetrable. I wouldn't bother learning a bus timetable for 3 days, and cab fees and up fast.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is just off the GC Highway, and is very well serviced by buses running every 10 mins or so. All the other parks also have bus services too them.

For anywhere else there's always Uber. Plenty of drivers on the coast.

If you would rather hire a car, Hertz 24/7 hour have a few cars in Surfers you can hire, about 10 bucks an hour. Just need to get yourself key fob and join up first. http://hertz247.com.au/how-it-works

and if you are going to hire a car for the day, highly recommend driving up to O'reillys Plateau. Stunning scenery on the drive up there, some good walks and a tree-top walk on suspended walkways. Wild lorikeets and parrots that will come and land on you to be fed. Also a llama farm on the way up where you can pet and feed them. About a 6 hour round trip.

A couple of new bars worth checking out too, Howl at the Moon and Cocoon both brand new bars in Surfers and are a cut above the rest of the bars in Surfers, definitely somewhere to take your lady. End of Cavill Ave, overlooking the river.

This is also where the cheap broadwater cruises go from too. $30 all in for a few hours.

Boulders and Badlands Putt Putt worth a look and is usually well priced - http://www.parkwoodgc.com.au/mini-golf/

Be sure to get down to the end of the Spit in Main Beach, plenty of wildlife, a nice walk down to the lighthouse. You might even spot a whale/dolphin/turtle/snake/shark. Seen these on a few occasions there.

I'd recommend Surfers RSL for a cheap feed. Pretty decent quality too. Opposite the bus station.

If you're a drinker, head down to Waxys or Melbas on the Sunday. $3 beers all day. Usually at one of them on a sunday if you're keen for a meet-up

Any questions, let me know, i'm a local.

        • @gooddealmate:
          Great tips gooddealmate

Do you have any idea if there are discount tickets for Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary?
          AND
Would going Uber save time but I'm not sure how much Uber(first time user) rides average cost to go to Movie world, is it better to go public transport or does it take too long?

  • Skypoint: http://www.skypoint.com.au/?gclid=CMzZ5oWyi8gCFUqWvQodQA8MiQ Climb the Q1 building for amazing views. Great spot to pop 'the question' ;p

Also worth noting it's only $10 entry after 8pm at which point becomes geared up as a bar. Nice to see the city-lights by night.

We were there last week. We bought go card explorer and used it for travelling by bus and tram for 10 bucks whole day.
