Help with a small travel dilemma

I have booked return tickets to Melbourne (from Adelaide) for a weekend in November flying tiger air. I arrive in Melbourne at about 5pm however I need to be in Melbourne earlier in the day (about 9am). I was going to call up tiger to change my ticket for another earlier flight however the earliest flight tiger has that day arrives at 11.45am.

Is it possible for me to book a one way flight with another airline to get me to Melbourne earlier (and just not rock up for my original tiger flight) and still use the return leg of the tiger flight to return to Adelaide?

Hope that made sense!

Cheers

Call them to cancel is safer; some airlines will cancel the return flight if you don't take the initial.

    • Thanks!

    • Tiger sells tickets on a per segment basis. The return portion should be OK

    • As Rochow suggested, call Tiger to change the ticket - judging by the many, many threads asking the same question on various frequent flyer and airline forums, the majority of airlines will cancel the entire itinerary if you don't take the first flight, so better to be on the safe side.

  • A little hint:

Even if you bought a non-refundable ticket, you have a RIGHT to get taxes, landing fees etc. back if you do not fly as the airlines pays those per passenger!

Airlines often keep the money and only refund if asked.

You will only lose the portion of the price which is actually for the flight.

  • I called tiger and was told that if I don't show up for my initial flight, the return flight will not be cancelled

I think I will just not rock up because the flights were booked as part of a group and if I was to change my flight or even cancel it then I would be charged fees apparently
