Virgin Gym Membership Joining Fee - Can Anyone Please Give Me a Referral?

Hi Guys!

I'm new to Melbourne and looking for a new gym to go to. I work out of the city and actually hate the gym so only classes will work for me.

As much as I don't wish to be a slave to the private, corporate gym world, unfortunately only the pricey gyms (Fitness First, Virgin) do group classes late mid-week. Virgin seems the best for me but their $100 Joining Fee is ridiculous. (It's $160 online and they brought it down so don't let fixed joining fees fool you.)

I've tried bargaining but they won't budge even though I was a member in the UK. (The cheek of it!) If I know a fellow gym member, I get to join for $50. Plus I think you get something snazzy for joining me up! Win Win right?!

Can anyone please please help? I will buy you a multitude of cleansing green juices

    Why dont you just go in and asked the next person walking in to refer you.

    That's such a good idea! They don't offer a free pass though so I'll be with the dude trying to upsell me the whole time. Maybe I'll just loiter outside beforehand haha

    Hold up a sign outside the gym. Their new gym on Collin Street looks nice.

    hahaha! I could give away free Protein Shakes! I know, it does look nice. Fitness First have rung me and offered me no Joining Fee (usually $75) + first 2 weeks free. Decisions, decisions

      If you join FF we can go smash a set sometime.

      I go to collin st, Melb central and QV FF. Sometimes Flinders Street.
      That is the main appeal for FF for me.

      I have not been to Virgin gyms. I was told it feels like a country club.

        haha! Yeah, I'm going to check both out and see which one suits best. I do like how you can use several clubs in the city

    I used to go to the now old one on B. I absolutely loved it, but it became so busy it was hard to book classes and everything was packed. It might be different now with the second venue open. If you are into classes, it might be worth checking that out. Something to also be mindful of is that because it's a fortnightly payment, it's a bit more expensive than other gyms. Just mentioning it because you will end up paying more than the $50 you are concerned about now…

    Yeah thanks for the heads up. I think it works out being about $120 per month so $50 joining fee on top should be the most I pay! You're right; really I should book in about 6:30-7 to see the class sizes are like at that time of night. Good tip!
