Comprehensive Car Insurance Which One?

The time has come to renew my comprehensive insurance on my 2010 Kia Sportage Si Auto FWD.

I've been with NRMA for several years but they're trying to charge me over $1400 for renewal.

I do about 30,000km per year and need Car Hire as optional extra, don't have any previous faults on my record and I'm over 30.

I've done some shopping around and the cheapest I found is Bingle for around $820 then Budget,AusPost Dodo, Virgin for around 900.

So the question is would you go with one of these cheap ones or pay more and be with "premium" insurer.

Cheers

You need to read the terms and conditions associaterd with each policy. You will find they are all different and there are reasons why some policies are dearer than others.

It's like airline tickets. You cn pay the premium price with Qantas or pay less and get less service/features with carriers like Jetstar.

  • Call someone who cares, RACV, lol

  • As long as you read and understand what is owed to you 100% then you should be fine.

A friend of mine is a p-plater with an expensive European car. Called every Australian insurance company under the sun and nothing was cheaper than $2000 for full comp, until Progressive (the company entirely online and has annoying commercials on TV) offered a little over $1200 per year. She was extremely reluctant to go with a completely online company as there is no one to actually call if you do have an accident, however she knows exactly what she is covered for and believes that they are legally required to deliver on what they promise, soooo….

    • Benefit of email over phone call is that you have their written word.
They do respond very fast and can be better than waiting on hold for ages only to get someone who tells you anything to get rid of you.
Progressive seem to have good feedback on claims, which is the reason you take out insurance.

I am with Coles and quite happy with them…had repairs done…all ok…I will never waste my money with arrogant insurance company such as NRMA…they don't give good customer service as they used to ….

    • They are owned by the same parent company
