New Feature: Adding Deal to Google Calendar Event and Exporting iCalendar file

A new feature was rolled out this morning where users can:

  • Add deals as events directly to Google Calendar
  • Export iCalendar (.ics) files to use for Apple Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! Calendar etc.

To access this functionality, click on the 'Reminder' link under the deal description.

List of stores under domain

The calendar events will have a duration of 1 day. The 'start' time is determined as follows:

  • The start date is used if it exists and is in the future
  • The expiry date is used if it exists and is in the future
  • Otherwise, tomorrow's date is used and users can edit the event as required.

The deal reminder feature has been updated so that the date options have been reduced to the start and expiry dates, plus a custom date picker for users to pick their own date.

Comments

  • Just me, or I can't see it :'(

    • You don't see it? Just to be clear you'll see the reminder in deals and not this forum post.

      • I don't see it in this one:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/218020

        Maybe because it's expired.

        • Ah yes. Only for active deals. Is there a reason one would need to remind themselves of an expired post at a certain date?

        • @neil:

          Yes… to set a 6 months reminder :)

        • @inose:

Ah good point. Let's see what we can do.

        • The change to display the reminder link will be rolled out sometime next week. Thanks for the suggestion.

        • @moocher:

          No problem.

Another suggestion, badges and prizes for people who suggest things and improve ozbargain!

  • Don't need iCalendar as ozbargainers are to poor to afford iPhoneTM

  • Sorry for digging this thread up, I'm having issues adding to my google calendar when I view the site on my phone. Does this feature only work for desktop only?

    • It should still work on mobile, but your phone will ask you to choose an application to handle the .ics calendar file. What issue are you experiencing?

    • Oops sorry you were referring to adding a deal directly, not the calendar export. Yes I can see that it no longer seems to do work on mobile. Will investigate, sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: You can do a full export of all your deal reminders from your reminders page in the meantime.

      • Thanks moocher!

        • The link to add a deal reminder to Google calendar has been changed for mobile. It goes to the browser to add the event, but it should then be in your calendar app.

        • @moocher: Thanks for the fix!

  • Great feature moocher, thankyou!

    @moocher

    • You're most welcome :)
