Best Racing Wheel Stand?

I, like many others, have just purchased the G29 + Shifter. I have no real table to attach it too, so am looking for a racing stand <$200. Suggestions would be great, so far my only real knowledge is on the GTArt, is this the best option?

Thank you!

  • I know it might not have crossed your mind, nor necessarily be exactly what you're after but for the price this is very good. I use it for my Logitech Momo racing wheel and its does work quite well as a wheel stand. I certainly wouldn't spend nearly ten times more on the GTArt.

    • Honestly that would have been OK however I am limited with many options such as this IKEA one as I require a lower place to attach the shifter.

    • Anyone else use the ikea table for the g920 steering wheel and shifter im tempted to get one but not sure possibly another $130 or so i could maybe get the proper stand not sure what to do.

  • Check gumtree. Have seen a heap of them cheap on there.

  • We used to attach our gaming steering wheel to an ironing board - height adjustable for different people/chairs/seating arrangements - not sure if you'd have problem of somewhere to attach the shifter (we just had a steering wheel).

  • The GTArt looks a lot like the APIGA AP2 that I bought a few years ago, it was around $200USD. http://ps3.mmgn.com/Forums/Playstation-3-Hardware/APIGA-AP2 Not sure if Apiga are still around, maybe they sold off their design? Before that, I used a sawhorse from Bunnings, with foldable legs and the wheel and gearstick just clamped onto the wooden crossbeam. It was a good height for racing.

    • Yeah I noticed that the GTArt is similar to the APIGA (However the GTArt has more holes pre drilled for more wheels), how did you like the APIGA? and if I'm not mistaken I think it's pretty much the same as the GT Omega wheel stand.

The Apiga was pretty good, the only criticism is my knees hit the upright bars after a while as you relax and the "male-spread" sets in.

I bought a GTArt stand from ebay and can say for the price it is pretty well hard to beat. I use it with the G920 and shifter and works perfectly. The seller was oz_progear, I got it for $169 but the current price is $219. I also have a Next Level wheel stand that I bought from Pagnian. They are currently $299 on their site. It is a lot heavier and more sturdy but is overkill for the Logitech wheels, I use a Fanatec wheel and pedals on that stand.

    • Haha thank you kind sir! They were literally all the things I was looking at!

It was 11:58pm last night (2 minutes left on the 15% off), and I was about to buy the Pagnian for $299 which comes down to $258 with the voucher. Decided not to because although it looks amazing I just couldn't justify that type of money.

Am really annoyed that they boosted the price on the GT Art but decided to wait until I know a little more about them. The cheapest is $189 - is this the same as what you purchased? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231461176043?_trksid=p2060353.m14…

Although it doesn't say G29 enabled on the main title/picture it does in the description when you click into it.

      Thanks!

    • Does the g920 fit onto the gt art stand ok? As i read this from a forum someone said about it no mention of the g920 being bolted to it.

shifter and pedals mounts have predrilled holes that suit Logitech G25, 27 and 29 and also Thrustmaster 80, 300RS and 500RS.

Im tempted just to get that ikea table as been spending too much lately including the steering wheel and shifter im about to pick up today

      • Fits perfectly.

        • I take you have both?

        • @bwatt99: oh no my bad though the actual wheels are the same outer casing AFAIK so it's too be assumed that the bolt holes are in the same places. Pedals and shifters are also literally the same.

At $258 the Pagnian one would have been pretty good but they are a lot heavier than the GTArt one, and like I said not necessary for the Logitech wheel. I did have to redrill holes in the base for the Fanatec pedals to mount properly, not sure if the Logitech ones would line up first go.

The G29 will fit perfectly on the GTArt, it has the exact same mounting points as the G25, G27, and the G920 I have. I have used screws to hard mount the wheel and pedals as the Logitech mounting clamps can work loose over time, not really a big deal as they are easy to tighten. The holes were already predrilled in the stand which is good, but it doesn't come the mounting screws. Hope this helps.

    • It does thank you!

A little disappointed, was planning on buying the shifter from Dick Smith on ebay for the 30% off. Turns out that it's click and collect only and no stores in Australia are stocking it.

Also missed out on the 15% yesterday due to my indecision.

A possible 45% savings down the drain. Such is life.

I was looking at the shifter from Dick Smith as well to replace the old G27 one I am using, guess I would have missed out too if they aren't stocking it.

It's bad luck missing out on the discount, it's always nice getting a bargain.

Also I forgot to answer in my previous response that the ebay link you had for the $189 one is the exact same stand that I bought.

Yep I just bought the one from oz_progear. He had it listed for $219 as opposed to the $189 one. But he had better feedback and quicker postage so I decided to send him an offer of $150. He declined. I then sent him an offer of $169 and he accepted. So all in all he dropped his price $50 which is more then the 15% discount and I am absolutely wrapped!

        • @stevensx: Yeah that's the guy I bought from. His English is terrible but he came through alright in the end (took three days to get a tracking #)

        • @stevensx: Well done you won't be disappointed.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: His English is hopeless, I have my postage details to a free Auspost Locker (Not a GPO box) and this was his reply:

hi please igve me aa physical addres as we can send physical address only

          ^Direct copy and paste

        • @stevensx: Yeah that's him alright lol

    • So how does this fix to stand with bolts?

  • +2
    • Haha thank you very much! I googled for this and it was no where to be found - really informative and I'm happy your review of this was positive as I've bought it today! Glad I purchased the GTArt instead of the much more expensive overkill Pagnian Next Level stand. I'm not a hardcore racing sim guy but I love my cars and really wanted something that wasn't going to wobble for my $169.

  • Got this stand last year being a dad again not had any time to take it out of box and build.
I started today and having issues with instructions it seems all guess work and don't want to damage anything.
I have taken pics and have aeveral questions to ask even if what i know is right there is still stuff left over what they are for not sure.
Just trying to find others who has same item and some info about it as somethings on instructions look different to my stand and some items they say use just will not work.
    Thanks

    • Forget the instructions! Just builld it as you see fit - Have been using it for over a year now and it's wonderful!

      • Yes but wondered what all the bolts, knob things are for and as for instructions it shows you one thing but mine does look like what it ss in gear shift part.
Shows fitted with turning knob things and holes at front top side of legs mine has holes from side and knob things are too small for it anyway.
They there are lots of smaller bolts etc are these to fit bolt on steering wheel/gear shift stuff.
Have asked the seller he is not much help and his english is very bad.

        • From memory, the smaller fasteners are provided to attach the pedals to the base and the wheel and the separate shifter to the arms etc. As the rig is multi-purpose they don't know what wheel you have so they provide extras so all types will fit. Don't panic if you have any left over. Just find a good photo and construct it as close as possible, there will be minor differences during production and holes may have moved or new ones introduced, or shifter supports completely redesigned to cater for other wheel manufacturers. Post a photo of the items if you are really stuck.

        • Hmmm I don't remember it being too difficult.
This is how mine turned out if it helps

        • @endotherm:

Yes definitely been changes to the stand as instructions shows part where you add gear shifter bracket with turning knobs which mine does not. So there have been changes.

So your saying the little strap things are for shifter, pedals and wheel or depends on what you have its the logitech wheel i have for xbox one.

Whats the tie wraps fir x2 and i have a few hold little bolts i take these are for wheel or pedals or gear shifter as well.
          Not attached them yet.

But did get stand done was easy but just instructions where very poor and was making sure.

Here is what i have left whats the knobs for?
Having the logitech wheel do i need all parts or just some?

        • @stevensx:

          Thanks

        • @bwatt99: The knobs generally are to replace bolts of the same size, they are used for things where you need to tighten up or adjust a bolt using your hands without having to find tools. They would be for things like adjusting the table height for the wheel, and allowing the bolt to be loosened and removed when you fold the unit flat for storage etc. The best clue as to where they go will be the other end where the nut goes, it is either threaded into the steel or the nut is permanently welded to the frame. Cable ties and straps would be used for holding the power supply and cables so they don't get pinched when folded, and to keep them out of the way and tidy when you are using it. The extra bolts are probably included as they supply a one-size-fits-all packet of screws regardless of what options you have, e.g. they might be required to attach the keyboard shelf or join the seat section frame etc. if you ordered the optional extras. Depending on the manufacturer of the driving wheel, there might be different threads and bolt sizes used so they give you different sizes to suit. I think the wheel and shifter are held on with their own inbuilt attachment mechanisms, the pedals are bolted to the floor frame through the holes and slots in the floor. Move it around to adjust it to suit your leg length and position, then tighten the bolts. There are threaded holes on the back of the pedal assembly.

Again, don't panic if there are leftovers, make sure you do it up to suit your equipment and that you are happy with it, then stop worrying. Then start playing with it.

        • @endotherm:

I suppose i figure it out when fitting wheel and pedals and gear shifter.
But i know the knobs are for to adjust height and ones are for when folding they where two different sizes so common sense where they went.
These last four dont fit anywhere as thread is too small and they are yoo short so just asume they might be for fixing either the pedals, wheel or gear shifter to the stand.
Cook the straps etc are for cables etc.

        • @bwatt99: They might be to attach the pedal assembly then, so you can slide it forward for when kids are using it, then all the way back for adults. I don't think it is for the shifter, it basically stays where it is once fitted. If I remember correctly, the bolts touched my knees where it fitted to the frame so having big knobs there wouldn't be good.

      • Yes i suppose i ignore the instructions i pretty much got some info from it but most was just guess.
And it even looked different to what i had lol.
