Value for Money Speakers for Chromecast Audio

With the announcement of the Chromecast Audio, I'm looking to get two or three speakers to place throughout the house for a wireless audio setup (combined with the respective number of Chromecast Audio devices). However, my knowledge of speakers is pretty limited to say the best.

I'm looking for some model numbers or brands to keep an eye out for, and what sort of price range to expect (Neither me or my partner are audiophiles, so are likely to err towards cheaper speakers). Ideally they would be standalone (kind of similar to how bluetooth speakers appear) but would not require any "smart" functionality like bluetooth or Wifi, as the Chromecast would plugin via the 3.5mm jack.

Do the likes of Xaiomi make some good quality, low cost speakers that ozbargainers recommend?

  • You need powered speakers unless you get an amplifier for each.
That probably dumps you into the "Active" computer speaker territory, unless you want DJ style PA speakers littered through the house.

  • I bought a pair of Dayton Audio B652 bookshelf speakers of eBay, cost be about $63 shipped. They are great, would recommend. Granted I use them primarily for my record player, but you can find review here: http://www.cnet.com/au/products/dayton-audio-b652/
