Pick your own strawberry at bullsbrrok, $10 for a tray, upto 7 kg. plus a great day out for the whole family. additional $2 per person picking, unlimited tasting on the farm.

Address: 263 Old West Road, Bullsbrook WA

Open weekdays and weekend all throughout school holidays. Plenty of strawberries to pick, also they keep sections of the farms close where strawberries are waiting to be riped to ensure steady supply through the season.

Things to remember if you are heading down there:
1) Its a farm, and a dry one. Wear something disposable that you can chuck away as washing will be too much of effort.
2) Carry plenty of water to keep hydrated and remember to wash strawberries before tasting.
3) Parking is on the street, be careful with the kids as you park the car and enter the farm.
4) Carry hats and sunglasses.

You're not a true Ozb'er because you wasted too much of the weight on the stalk. Disappointing.

    • +2

There is no weight restriction, fill up as much as you like. I did fill up more this photo is after 1kg of strawberries already shared.

Besides stalk do give them freshly pucked feeling when shared with friends so I suggest stalk up :)

  • Any cheap tickets to WA

    • just buy from the fruit market..

      won't be much cheaper

i work in strawberry farm before. the boss always let workers pick the good berry before open the gate for visitors. :)

    • Yep, definitely one of the fruits to be careful of. At least wash it before consuming..

      • but the pesticide would have seep into the flesh..

        • -1

I agree. I actually wouldn't eat it. It's for these other people who think the sprays make no difference and that organic is a scam.

        • @skazclaw:

that's why I grow my own..

but they are tiny compared to the shops
Not sure how shops are so big.

also they seem to be eaten by some creature but I don't know what…

Only way to prevent this is to use some sort of pesticide, which I have not used yet.

        • @tyler.durden: something eating them - you may not be ready to hear, but it may be cockroaches! Had this problem.

Part solved by going on night time raids with torch and rolled up newspaper. Also helps by putting berries into little mesh bags. Kind girls use for jewlery. Got some nice strawberries after that.

  • Protip to keep strawberries for longer: rinse them in a 1 part vinegar, 8 parts water solution, and then store as normal (fridge). I read this somewhere and have found my strawberries last WAY longer.

      Who wants long lasting vinegarberries?

Jokes aside, does it actually taste like vinegar.

      • vinegar berries

        they should market that

        • Next they'll be marketing sour grapes!

      • +1

I've never had that issue. I do rinse it again afterwards with water. I guess people can test with 1 strawberry and see results for themselves!

  • What's the usual price for a tray at PYOS?

  • much better price than "u-pick" strawberries in flinders, victoria…

Just a quick bit of info for those that went last year.

    1) Through the power of ozBargain, as well as a number of kid/children related sites, this place is no longer a "best kept secret". Expect there to be 5x the amount of people that went last year.

    2) The pricing is different to last year. Apparently there were whole busloads of people (tourists) rocking up last year and picking the place clean without buying the trays.

It is now $10 for the tray, which gets you entry for 1 person. Each child/adult after that is $2. So for a family of 4 it is $16

    3) The trays are smaller this year. They call them child friendly picking trays, but we ozbargainers know what that is code for. They probably hold a couple of kilos less than last years trays.

    4) It pays to go for a walk. Obviously the stuff at the front gets picked clean first. So go for a stroll to find an area with heaps of stock.

    • Thanks for the update. We were planning to go again this year but with cheap strawberries in the supermarkets, additional cost for each extra person, smaller trays now, and how fast the strawberries went off last year for us, might give it a miss this year.

  • Protip: don't wear fancy shoes, it gets quite muddy

  • great for kids but lots of people.
left digging through the small or unripe strawberries.

  • Great deal, but too far from VIC unfortunately.

  • Been there, done that. The berries are amazing…just pick the darkest ones, spend a couple of minutes extra to walk as far back as you can, you WILL be rewarded.

  • Did this a couple of weeks ago. We arrived as they opened the gates, but there was already a que. The kids had a great time and the strawberries were fantastic. It's excellent value for money for the strawberries alone, but this is also a family outing/activity. As others above have mentioned, walk to the further rows as those closest to the entrance are almost always picked clean. Finally…and I don't want to sound negative…but this isn't a 'bargain' per say; as $10 is the normal price. However, as I mentioned above, it is excellent value.

  • I am going next Saturday so everyone else - STAY AWAY.

  • My son and his wife took their 2 year old daughter to the strawberry farm last weekend. She had a ball; came back covered from head to toe in dirt but loved it. As a family outing it's great fun for the kids and cheap, unlike most family activities these days.
I use a veggie wash for my fruit and veggies - I don't know if that makes any difference to the pesticide levels, but it can't hurt and a bottle of the wash lasts for ages. I guess as an occasional thing, eating strawberries can't be too harmful.
They made pots of jam with their tray of strawberries - nothing quite like home made jam

    • just curious - where to get veggie wash and what is the pros? thanks,
