Worthwhile Home Printer with Reasonable Ink Costs etc? Dick Smith $100 Voucher to Use

Hi All,

I've got a $100 Dick Smith voucher to use, and I figure the only way I'll ever buy a decent printer for my home office is with this 100 bucks chucked in from my tech-phobic, very generous mother-in-law.. God bless er. I'm almost as crap as her with printers though.. Too many to choose from. Can anyone recommend a ripper for my home office? Multi-function is kinda good for me, but I hear they're often crap. I also have little kids who print a fair few photos and chew thru the ink, so cheap(ish) ink would be great too..

Thanks SO Much,
UQ

The only way you'll find reasonable ink is if you can find aftermarket cartridges that actually work.

Even then it's still going to be expensive.

IMO get a laser B&W and get the print colour at school/officeworks etc

I also have little kids who print a fair few photos

    BigW, target, etc

    +1 to Davo's comment.

Stick with a laser printer. I have found inkejets to be troublesome to use, and if you dont use the inks often, they dry up.

You could probably pickup a Brother B&W laser, with duplex (doubled sided) and wireless for about $100.

More expensive, but if you can afford it, I would recommended getting one with a scanner and ADP (auto document feeder). They can come in very handy.

As for colour - as Davo said. HN, Big W and all those places print high-quality photos from digital files at a very affordable price (usually between $0.10 - $0.15 for a 4x6").

  • Brilliant. Thanks lads.

  • What about refilling ink cartridges at home? Is that possible?
