Want to Install ATM at Shop/Business

Hi,
my friend just ask me if I know anything about installing an ATM as they want to put one in their shop/business. I have no idea…… I did a google but wasn't sure if they were scams etc
So thought I'd ask my fellow ozbargainer's for some advice or recommendations.
Thanks!

    This post was interesting: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1170245&#…

You do not have to have armed guards fill them. if its a private machine its up to you. Some cafes etc, just put say $2000 in a machine every two days out of the till.

I might get one for home for my wife to use. I place some cash in there each week. I would rather a machine tell her I'm out of funds rather than me.

  • Plenty of conversation on this already at Whirlpool.

  • Is there any reason why they really want one? I mean why not just take a credit card instead of having to get cash out?

  • I think they want to save on credit card fees and more cash flow for business

I am pretty sure that there'll be a lot of other OzBargainers on my side here. If businesses install private ATMs in their shops and expect me to pay $2.50 to withdraw cash rather than accepting my EFTPOS or credit transaction at a terminal, I turn around and walk out. My business goes with me and I never return.

Exactly.. a place we used to eat regularly removed eftpos and replaced it with an atm with a $2.50 fee, we stopped going there and so it seems did many others.. they now have a HUGE sign on the window which says "EFTPOS AVAILABLE AGAIN" guess it hit their bottom line lol

There's no bank in my town. You can get money out at the club, petrol station, IGA, or bottleshop.

The petrol station first started refusing cash out unless you were buying fuel. Then the other day told me - no cash out - at all. Use the $4 ATM. That means two trips for me. One to get fuel. Another one to the bank. And this in an area that gets a lot of tourists. The people that work at the garage, openly offer the opinion their bosses are idiots for this move. I'll be going somewhere that means ONE trip, thanks.

The IGA has an ATM. They have eftpos at the counter, but if you want any cash - sorry - use the ATM. ATM is also something like $4 to get money out.

There's a much larger supermarket with Coles, WW, Aldi, KMart - all the other stores you can think of like clothes, mechanic, McDonalds, KFC, pushbikes, vet, NRMA, etc… another 10km away. Guess where most people already go. Guess where lots more are going to go now. And guess what happens to the other businesses in the town - like the bike shop, hardware, takeaways, mechanic, hairdressers.

They say it's because eftpos costs them. Rubbish. Or they'd just add that small fee. It's really because the ATM 'earns' for them.

Every good OzBargainer knows that ING Direct pay ATM fees, no matter where you withdraw cash from or what the fee is!

        • This saves me on many occasions haha

    • Probably better having a "cash out" EFTPOS facility, that way a least customers or potential customers are actually inside and can have a look around rather than outside of the store.
