Meizu M2 Note pop up problem

Hi everyone, so I got the meizu m2 note deal from an ozbargain deal and loving it so far however my only problem is pop ups to install apps appear from time to time. The browser that comes with it also pops up automatically sometimes too. Can someone show me how to get rid of this problem or direct me to a link which can help me? I have researched forums and tried all sorts of things dunno what I am doing wrong.

I have tried installing Norton on it and using the apps advisor and malware tool. Didn't detect anything out of the ordinary.

Didn't dare use kingroot cos I dunno if I will delete a needed file. I don't know how to reflash ROM if I do.

If anyone can shed light, much appreciated, cheers.

  • Tried a factory reset?
Sounds like you've installed a dodgy app, or the phone came with dodgy apps pre-installed.
Factory reset will eliminate the dodgy apps if you've installed something, might remove them if they were pre-installed.
Your best bet though is to flash a known "safe" ROM

  • The phone would have come with bloatware on it. Same as my Redmi Note 2 I received this week….
I flashed the latest rom onto it from the MIUI site, you can either do that or alternatively if you go into the security app to see if you can enable root and then download a system app uninstaller.

If you're unwilling to root it or install a custom rom then all I can say is to put up with it, factory reset won't do anything

    Cheers

I suggest downloading the newest update from the Flyme website. Check what model phone you have (whether you have the Chinese version 'U' or the International version 'I'). If you got it from JD.com, it'll be chinese version. Download this update:
    http://download.meizu.com/Firmware/Flyme/m2_note/4.5.4/cn/20…

[edit]: Note you will lose all your data!

And install it using the inbuilt recovery, accessible this way:
Press POWER button to reboot the phone. Immediately after the phone turns off press and hold VOLUME UP + POWER button at the same time. After the logo appears release the POWER button and remain to hold VOLUME UP button. Attach the USB and drag the update.zip onto the ~950mb drive that appears. Then update through the phone.

You can follow these instructions to remove the Chinese Apps, which is a copy and paste from http://geekify.tk/meizu-m2-note-flyme-os-4-5-2a-root-remove-… but unfortunately the page no longer works so I retrieved it from the cached version. Personally I have followed these instructions to the letter - all the chinese apps are gone and I have no problems, and no longer get any pop ups.

    [edit]You need ROOT access:
    ROOT

To obtain ROOT access you need to have a Flyme account. I guess you probably did this already, and if not, register so that you can easily unlock the ROOT access.
After that go to Settings > Accounts > My Flyme and tap on your Flyme Username (first item).
Now you should see an option System privileges at the bottom and chose to open the System privileges. It will give you a warning and ask you to type your Flyme account password again.
After that you will need to install SuperSU app from the Play Store.
Start SuperSU app and follow the instructions to install it into the system. After that reboot and you will have ROOT access on your device.

    Remove Chinese apps

    1. Install Titanium Backup from Play Store
    2. Install new Keyboard app from Play Store (Google Keyboard for example)
    3. Open Titanium Backup and make backup only from app named “System Keyboard 4.3.13”
    4. Now uninstall “System Keyboard 4.3.13”
    5. Reboot the device
    6. Continue only if you have rebooted the device as instructed in the previous step!
    7. Open Titanium Backup again and do a backup for the following apps:

    – Android System WebView 1.0
    – AppCenter 4.5.5
    – Backup and Recover 1.0
    – Browser 2.2 (BOOKMARKS)
    – Cloud Account 11.0.0
    – Cloud Service 4.10.5
    – Email 1.0.0710
    – Game Center 4.5.5
    – Key Chain 5.1-1437730311
    – Life 1.1.0
    – Meizu game frame 3.16
    – Mzcompaign 1.0
    – MzMPay Service 3.3.2
    – MzO2OService 1.0
    – Reader 1.3.0
    – Sina Weibo Share 2.0.0
    – SmartVoice 4.3.10
    – sogou inputmethod 6.5.2
    – System Keyboard 4.3.13 (Again make sure that you have backup of this one and that you removed it and rebooted as described in the previous steps)
    – Tips 1.0

    • SuerSU install/first run fails with a message to reboot and try again. Settings confirms root access and SuperSU is allowed root. Any suggestions? I have rebooted several times.

    • Oh and then obviously uninstall these apps with Titanium backup!

  • Strange. Not sure. Try just installing Titanium backup and give it root access through the phone?

If that fails, try logging out of your flyme account and re-logging in - and re enable root access (reboot after doing this).

Sorry - rather stumped at this point!

  • thanks for all the help, seems like its fixed itself with update to latest flyme version…however now google play doesnt work but i will see if i can get around it. I really really want to love this phone :(

Keep at it - mine's humming along nicely after a few hiccups!
You need to install the proper version of google play services:

      Try this one:
      http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services…

this version is the x64 version for our phones.

      • Cheers mate, you have been a real big help, will let you know how it goes.
