  • Has anybody had any trouble getting the refund? I applied through the link on this page and they have not refunded me or transferred the points. When I contacted them they said that I didn't apply through the link and that I wasn't part of the deal.

I will obviously complain and go to the Ombudsman if necessary but I just wanted to see if they have tried this with anybody else?

    • i was planning on waiting the 90 days before trying to contact them about my refund. and points.

      • I was too but I thought I would contact them and check. I then got an email saying they would not refund the annual fee nor credit me with the points because I 'hadn't applied through the link'.

        • hmm, got me worried now as well, as I haven't got the refunds yet either.
best you can do is wait 90 days and then contact ombudsman.

  • Got annual fee and qff refunded within weeks, but no refund for additional card fee. Does anyone has the additioan card fee refunded ?

  • w00t! annual fees refunded $279.00

  • Sorry, just after some advice please. CBA are refusing to refund the fees and credit the points.

I signed up about a month ago after clicking through the link on this page. I also spent the required $500.

They are now saying that I am not entitled to the refund because I didn't sign up through the link. I am sure I clicked through but I don't know how I can prove this. What are my avenues for getting this money refunded?

You could camp out the front of a branch and hold a little protest. If you bring a can for donations, you might make the fees back in a couple of weeks from kind & generous people passing. Which is probably faster than getting it back from CommBank directly.
Or if you're not a happy camper, you could try pleading your case on www.gofundme.com.

maybe take a screenshot of the application page showing how you applied.

      then try the ombudsman.

      • I think that's the best option you have atm. In the worst case you can ask for leniency as the offer is still valid till the end of the day.

  • i am thinking of applying for this in the evening. can any existing cba platinum holders confirm if they applied and qualified for the deal? am i best cancelling the current cba card and applying for this or just applying and if they tell me i need to close existing account to approve application agreed to it then? I called up they said additional card holders is $10 thus not waived in first year.

    • If I was you I would not apply now. You left it for the last minute as the offer expires today.

By the time you apply you are still an existing customer and you risk being charged be full fee and not getting the points.
Even if you cancel your existing CBA card after applying for this one the system will not generate a closing statement instantaneously so yeah, you risk falling under the existing customer category .

      Edit:
Bottom of application page has the following terms

Offer only available on one CommBank Platinum Awards credit card per customer, non-transferable and is not available in conjunction with any other offer.

  • Got annual fee and qff refunded within the first statement, and the bonus 40,000 points in the second statement.

    • Annual fee, QFF fee refunded in second statement and I can see the QFF points being credited in the second statement, (but hasn't gone to Qantas yet).

    my qantas points have arrived.

Commonwealth bank offered me 10k more points to keep my card open after I called to cancel on the phone.

    • Thanks for the pro tip.

    • How much you spent in total so far ? Usually if you don't spend a lot, they will not bother and whether the fees is worth it in exchange of 10k points

      • I spent the minimum $500. no more.

she basically asked why I opened it and I said for the bonus points, she then offered me the 10k points to keep it open which she said would arrive in less than 6 weeks.

I plan to close after then.

        • you can do this every 2 months

        • turns out they only gave me 5k of additional points.

i had the same issue saying i didnt apply by using the link…
they said they would investigate it. took about a week then they called up and said it they will refund and give me the points took about a week. havent seen the point yet or refund. but said it will take 30 days

    • I had the same issue as you. Called up today which was after 90 days and they said I didn't sign up via the promotion which is of course BS because there is no way I would have applied through anything other than the link from ozb.

The phone op "put a note" on my account to have someone "look into it" and that I should log onto Netbank after a week or so to see a message about the outcome.

      Pretty poor stuff.

      • Update on this: after calling several times I finally got the fees refunded on the 7th Feb and have been notified that I should get the points in March.

Based on this experience there is no way that I would sign up for a Commbank credit card ever again.

I rang up regarding the bonus points yesterday.

They advised me that I have to pay the $30 to get my commbank points converted to Qantas FF points but that will be refunded.

I have already made the required spend.

But then they said it can take 90 days for bonus points to come through and I'm unsure if that is from the time I made the required spend or from the time I paid the $30 to get FF points?

Also haven't have the annual fee waived yet.

    • I would ring them again and ask about the annual fee - see my comment above.

  • Finally got my points as well. Now waiting for fee refund of annual cost.

  • I also have not received the points or the fee refund because they say I didn't apply through the link. But I took a screenshot at the time and they are going to investigate.

    • same!!

      • They are also saying the same thing to me. I definitely applied through the link also!!

I had been on a previous call where they said I was eligible and they are investigating the call recording and will get back to me within 5 - 7 days…

        • Not fair, I have to wait 10 days!

        • @StevePER: my 5-7 days is just to tell me if I'm eligible. Then they "have to work out how to get me my points"

        • I am getting the same type of run around. They will honor the points which I should get by the end of the month. Regarding the fee refund, apparently I do not qualify as I didn't click through the correct link

I have called them about 5 times thus far! _ I have to wait until Thursday / Friday this week before they get back to me regarding the fee refund!

I wish us all good luck

    • I am in the same boat. I signed up through this link - https://www.commbank.com.au/personal/credit-cards/credit-car…. They said they can't do the FF points but I have pushed them on the fee refund and was told it would be issued in 3 business days. I also did ring them up in November and they confirmed that, although I got the gold card, I'd still be eligible.

      • I've now received the refund.

    • +1

How did you prove to them that you used the link from here?

I am in the same boat. Have rung once a week for the last 4-6 weeks now and CBA just send an email to qantas and palm it off to them. The bonus points or card annual fee refund will come if/when qantas approve the link that I used.

I took a screenshot of the promo page when I did the application. Whether they accept this as proof I don't know (still waiting).

I'm thinking if this fails it's off to the banking ombudsman or ACCC.

        • Agreed!!

        • Can you post the screenshot of the promo here so that anyone who is having issues can use this as evidence? My 90 days from activation will be up in the next few days and so far I have not been refunded anything so might have to go to the financial services ombudsman to get this resolved.

        • Yes posting would be a huge help!

        • @dw121212: Will do, but I would like my own complaint to progress a bit further first. (Unsurprisingly they didn't respond within the 10 business days they promised).

        • +1

@Rodo: You can see a screenshot here: http://imgur.com/8ig0TB7

      • I'm not sure if I could 'prove' it. But in my case I'd spoken with someone around November when I got the card, before I activated it - so I referred to that conversation, and they confirmed that they had a recording of it. This validated my claim.

  • I'm having similar trouble getting the refund or points.

  • I am also having problems getting points and a refund. They are saying I did not use the correct link and that I am the only person reporting this error….

Waiting on a call back from a manager and the deadline is tomorrow, I can't believe how much of a pain this has been.

    • +1

If you fail to get anywhere with the bank then you should contact the Financial Ombudsman Service to help you out.

    • +1

An update for anyone else having problems. I called today to follow up my complaint and have been informed that the refund and points will be processed. No proof was required.

      • Thanks I reckon I'll give this a try tomorrow.

  • On the phone with them again - they clarified that although I was offered Gold, not Platinum, I was eligible for the points. They said they'd email a different department then either send me a message in NetBank if the points were approved, or call me back if they weren't.

  • So I finally received my refunds but no points. Was told that I need to wait another month to receive my points. Should not have to wait so long for all this. Poor customer service.

    • I am still waiting for both ….

  • I got my fee refund but still waiting for the points. Whenever I talk to them they say the right things but they don't follow through.

    • +1

I'm still waiting for mine too. I was told on 21/03 that I would receive the points by 19/04. If they are not there by that date then I will tell them I am going to the Financial Ombudsman Service. You should do the same.

      • Same for me. I just lodged a complaint through their online service - one step from the FOS.

  • (profanity), I just got hit with a $30 qantas fee as well!
