Credit and Debit Card Advice/Travel Insurance for Skiing - JAPAN?

Hi all, heading to Japan in Feb for a month. I'll be skiing half the time I am over there, so I'm looking for some advice on which travel insurance will be comprehensive enough for my needs.

I may also have $6000 of camera kit in tow, so any insurance that would cover it, I would like to know about!! (Obviously I will take a >$500 camera if it is too difficult/expensive, but would love to take my main camera if possible)

Next up: CREDIT CARDS. I'm looking for a credit card with a $500 limit for emergencies only, with the least amount of fees.

Also DEBIT CARDS. Which bank is best to beat the fees in Japan? (I know its not Commonwealth!!)

I know I'm asking a lot of advice, but all comments will be very helpful, cheers!!

    1) Citibank Plus Card for Debit Card.
    2) 28 Degrees Master Card for Creit Card.
    3) Don't know much about travel insurance as all my travel insurance covers by my Diamond Visa Credit Card by "Which Bank"

If you want the travel insurance to specifically cover skiing you should make sure you read the fine print on what they do and don't cover.

A few years ago I was looking for travel insurance that covered off-piste skiing. The best for me at the time was World Nomads. I did claim with them for an injury (although not ski-related) and they were good to deal with.

I know they changed underwriters since then, so I have no idea if they are still a good choice, or still cover off-piste, but they were great at the time.

    • +1 for this, check fine print regarding skiing but if you just plan to stay in the designated areas you should be fine.

As others have said citibank plus for ATM withdrawal, 7/11 atm's have no fees, keeping in mind japan is mostly a cash society

  • Thanks so far, great advice from everybody!!
