Free and Unlimited VPN - Betternet.co

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Saw this over at androidpolice and decided to check the site. Androidpolice has a "mini-review" at their site at http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/10/08/betternet-is-a-free-…. It's totally free and unlimited and torrenting is allowed as well apparently. Has dedicated apps for Windows, iOS and Android.

Enjoy.

  • I find it very hard to believe that they can make money by having 'free app recommendations' within their app.

You'd also question how good they are when their SSL cert for their support page is invalid (its for zendesk)

    https://support.betternet.co/

"support.betternet.co uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: *.zendesk.com, zendesk.com (Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

    What's that old saying?
If it's free then it's not the product, you are.

    • Yeah I wonder how many of this VPN/DNS companies onsell (anonymised) user data.
I imagine tracking users online movements (like Google, FB like to do) is worth big bucks.

      • Can you get any App now that does not do this?

I also wonder if the big G or big A restrict what offerings, search sites, info you can have full access to. Yahoo he shouts in joy.

Let's think of other areas where you may not own your content - come on, FACE (book) up to it!

I've never used FB for that reason.
Google & I use each other, we're both comfortable with this friends with benefits relationship as we both know what the deal is.

My issue is with companies proporting to be looking after your privacy & security, doing the opposite. Be upfront & let the customer decide.

So they inject Ads into the webpages you're viewing - trustworthy stuff!

    From their terms
    https://www.betternet.co/terms.html

    "Third Parties

If you use this Service, Betternet is using third party advertising services which are allowed to show you advertising contents based on their own terms and conditions and privacy policies. Advertising contents may be shown on top of the page, inserted in the contents of the page, or displayed in different positions in the page while you are using the Service….

There's no mention of servers, do they have servers or do they share your connection with other users?

  • H have been using betternet since the start of September and it works pretty well with good speeds.

There's no mention of servers, do they have servers or do they share your connection with other users?

They have 2 server locations, one being USA and i forgot the other one.

They also claim not to store user data.

  • How funny would it be if it was run by the MPAA?
