Discounted Gift Cards Via Employer Benefits Program

Hi all,

Just saw a 5% off caltex/woolies deal on front page, and prompted me to think how I'm not utilising my employer benefit enough.

Not sure how common this is, but my employer offers a benefit program which allows me to purchase gc online at discount e.g. 5% off woolies/Coles gc, 6% off jb hi-fi and quite a few more retailers etc all year round. Some even offer e-gift cards which provide instant access.

When these deals become available to public and posted on ozb (albeit for a limited time), they generally receive decent amount of upvotes.

Anyways.. Wondering if there's any way I could help the ozb community to get access to these discounts all year round? However, not sure how practical this is..

P.s. first post on forum.. not a scammer but not an IT professiinal either. Just a random thought.

Cheers

That is kinda like a good idea. Not sure how you can make it happen though!

  • Reward Gateway?

  • It may be worth looking into your employers benefit schemes fine print?

  • I think if people started racking up a lot of purchases it might ring alarm bells. I know what you mean though, I belong to a big organisation and I don't make use of a lot of the benefits. Usually too lazy to look thinks up. (I know this is going to get me thrown out of OzBargain).

  • 7.5 for jbhifi?
    6 for myer
    10% for david jones

you work for a top 2 insurer? :P

they limit you to 5k in gift cards a month I think
and if you buy too much they might question it

  • If you are talking about the former API program / Reward Gateway, my understanding is that they actually make a loss offering the gift cards to their members (after they pay the merchant fees on your purchase of the cards) - they are doing it for love "member benefit" given many memberships are paid and not all members take up the offer, it must commercially balance for them. If you were to open it up mainstream I think they would have a problem.

We buy wish cards direct from Woolworths - if you buy over a certain $$ (I think it is $8k per transaction) they happily offer 5% off to anyone off the street.
