Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away Blu-Ray $24.95 Each @ JB Hi-Fi

850

Not sure if anyone's after these but they have always been around the $40 mark. Went into the galleries store (NSW) and they had it at $24.95.

[EDIT] Got home from work, put Princess Mononoke Blu-Ray on, blown away by the quality above the DVD i had for years. Drooling…..

Looks like all the Studio Ghibli blu-rays are $24.98. Confirmed for Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbors the Yamadas at least.

    • +1

Oh no, I didn't even check the others. Plus my bank account can't handle it. Really want Howl's and Spirited as well.

  • +2

Awesome, the bluray re-releases of Ghibli movies are fantastic, time to add a few things to my (very small) bluray collection.

  • Would've been better if they included digital versions as well.

    • +3

      Just rip them

Here's all the Ghibli and other anime on sale:

Thanks for that - The Girl Who Leapt Through Time isn't Ghibli but is one of my all time favourite anime movies.

Everything Hosoda makes is awesome. Wolf Children and Summer Wars are absolutely fantastic as well.

        • +3

Wolf Children is approaching life changing imo, amazing film

  • Great find, I'll make sure to head over to JBHIFI.

Edit: Anyone know how long the sale will last?

    • I think it's just ticketed at that price so looks permanent. There's no sales signage around it.

Also check the city stores in syd first. I know the parra store doesn't stock Princess Mononoke.

      • +1

I just went to JB Hifi and bought 6 Ghibli movies, and on the receipt it mentions 'PROMOTION' on each Ghibli Blu-ray so I doubt it's permanent.

        • Yep thanks op. I grabbed four. Mononoke, howl, castle in the sky n whisper..In for a treat this week :))

  • +4

man, ordered Spirited Away…checked back and Max Power posted the list and reminded me I wanted Ponyo also…then the mrs asked me to check for Big Hero 6 and JB finally dropped the price of that to $20. So much for just spending $26. Link for big hero 6 if anyones interested in that below.

    • Think of the money you've saved rather than spent :D

  • Hopefully the sale lasts at least until the 22nd. Since the Ghibli film 'When Marnie Was There' releases on the 21st. Although that probably won't be included in the sale anyway, it's nice to hope.

  • +1

Great film, well worth the cost.

  • +4

The tears from Ghibli… And Hayao Miyazaki… All great animes. Please, watch it in Japanese with english subtitles, if possible. This keeps the natural feel that the director wanted.

    • +3

Agreed but having said that compare to many other anime(s) Ghibli films often have quite reasonable dubs.

      These beautiful films!! Thank you

      • +1

Philistine! Learn Japanese for the true experience.

      • +1

Perhaps they may; I understand basic Japanese so maybe its different for me, but most of the time i cannot really stand dubs. The feel of the voice actor is totally different between languages. Japanese as a language is much sweeter and more expressive. E.g. The difference between daisuki, aishiteru and koishiteru, which all mean 'I love you' in English, but has a much deeper meaning for each in Japanese.

        • +3

That reminds me of this short by wong fu.

        • +1

          @Gimli:
          That was… really nice. Thanks

    Any sex scenes?

    • +5

      Well that escalated quickly

      • -3

lol - how? was legit question, some of the attraction about these early Japanese anime's are they are not politically correct and overally sanitized like many western cartoons

        • +1

what does that have to do with sex scenes?

        • +2

Not Studio Ghibli - family anime. And quality family anime.

exception - Grave of the fireflies - what a downer of a film that is

        • +1

@daveted: That was one depressing film.

        • +2

          @zorrt:

Bought it years ago, watched it once, bawled my eyes out and haven't watched it again.

        • +1

Even more depressing when you find out it's semi-autobiographical.

    • +2

Yes, all Studio Ghibli movies have sex scenes. Buy them all, thank me later. =)

  • +4

Upvoting just for Princess Mononoke alone. Best Studio Ghibli movie ever. (Here come the objections)

    • I object.

      • +3

Phoenix Wright objects to your objection! points finger

        • +2

Time for me to search around the room, and find a hint.

    • +2

No objection here, my favorite Ghibli film by far.

    • I concur!

  • If you guys can wait, you can preoder the collection due to release end of year:
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on…
Only a little more expensive than buying each movie at $25 each, and it comes with some extras!

    • I already bought that set earlier this year. I guess they're re-releasing it.

    • +1

This has been around. If you shop around JBHIFI, you may be able to find it under their collector's item bluray section. The website states release 18/11 means that they are getting the stock back.

I have one of these, Australia bluray version.

  • I bought mine during a 20% off sale.

  • Kingdoms of dreams and madness is a bargain at $19.98, it was an amazing documentary about studio ghibli and miyazaki's retirement, unless you have netflix US then it is also on there too
