New TV Help Me Choose

So My Kogan 55" TV just died and I'm about to go to Harvey Norman to buy new one as they have 50 months interest free.

What would be your choice?

My only requirements are:
1) Netflix
2) Optical audio output in 2-channel linear PCM format for my sony sound bar

Cheers

  • So, is the Kogan not under Warranty or covered by the ACL?

  • its 26 months old

    • There isn't a lot of downside in asking:
      NSW Fair Trading

I'd be hoping for more than 26 months life from a TV.

I'd be dubious about going for one of those interest free thingies. They have a set up fee plus ongoing monthly fees. Technically you're not paying interest, but you're still paying more than you would upfront.
As for the TV itself, not much help I'm afraid. I've been looking for a few months myself. I guess price will be a big determinant in what you get, what are you willing to go up to?

Don't buy a TV on 'free credit', you will pay for it in the price of the TV. Just pay cash or buy it on your credit card to get the points. TVs have massive discounting, you can negotiate some good deals. I would suggest a 4K 70 inch plus model, maybe last years LG can be had at a good price?

  • Above 50", consider looking at projectors, too. The 3D 1080p W1070 looks fantastic, costs less than $1000 and does up to 100".

Not for everyone (reality TV is fine on a TV) or every home (you have to have a room that is darkish whenever you're watching an a place to install it).

But for cinematic movies and gaming, projector is king.

So I ended up buying this

Got it down to $1550 and then told him I'm using interest free nothing he could do:)
