Christmas In Hong Kong

Hey,

Myself and GF will be landing in HK on the 22nd and spending Xmas there. First time to visit.

Any recommendations on hotels and "christmassy" things to do? Would like somewhere nice to stay for the festive season.

Thanks!

  • Review trip advisor posts that are submitted by couples around the time of year you're planning to go. Northern hemisphere = cold.

    • Hong Kong never really gets that "cold" but it'll certainly be the coldest it ever gets at around that time of year.

Sure as shit beats being there in July - August when it is hot, humid and horrible.

Hard to recommend hotels - check out Airbnb - honkers hotels are typically tiny and quite expensive.

The Stanford Hotel in Mongkok is very central to everything, have stayed there numerous times now. Probably about 5 mins walk to the MTR (subway) and sneaker street for shoe shopping and electronics.
    Things to see:
    Big Buddha
Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden
    Kowloon Walled City
    Sai Kung for seafood
Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple
    Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery
The Peak — take the tram up there.

If your a foodie you will love HK, shopping is cheap there also.

To get around I recommend getting an Octopus Card, you will be able to use this for public transport, to make purchases from the 7/11, maccas and that.

I'm an Aussie expat living in HK-
If you enjoy your beverages and live music- head down to Lan Kwai Fong (pub and expat area). Always a very good crowd of expats on Christmas Eve.

Also lots of social events on Xmas day happen on "Meetup" so keep an eye on that. Lots of expats away from their families and friends at Christmas - so you won't have problems finding people to
