Is It Safe to Buy Electronic/TV Form Smart Electrical Outlet ?

I was window shopping with my wife in Shopping center and found there is electric outlet called Smart Electric Outlet. Runs by Asian Guys.

Looked on few things …all were pretty cheap and asked why it is so cheap they said something which i couldn't understand due to their accent.

Like LG 55'UHD 100Hz was $1000 ?? how that can be ? I am sure they are not seconds and refurbished. May be they don't have boxes ?

But is it safe to buy those items from them or totally avoid ?

  • The website states specifically they sell Factory 2nds & Refurbished units.

Smart Electrical is a seller of Factory Refurbished goods, also known as Factory Seconds. These are appliances that were sent back by customers due to aesthetic or functional defects and issues like water or fire damage, damage in the packaging, or a sudden change of mind. Sometimes, units that are used for shows and demonstrations are also returned to the manufacturer. Source

    • yup found here.. http://smartelectricaloutlet.com.au/about.html/

is it safe to buy seconds or refurbished ?

      • Well, it'll be a small risk as you don't know what the initial damage was. You don't know if the life expectancy is much less due to electrical/water damage, etc. They may have replaced one component, but multiple could be faulty.

They state you'd be getting a product up to 70% cheaper than retail, so that risk must be worth it to you. They still provide between 6-12 months warranty and you'd assume if it was to fail in the short term, it'll fail within that period.

If you're interested in a specific product, note down the model numbers and check how much new is.

Ask what the warranty procedure is. Do you send it away to the manufacturer? Do they have in-house repairs? How long does a general warranty take? What happens if there are no spare parts?

        • Thanks Mate… I will consider those points before buying or looking any 2nds.

        • @ozyboy:
I bought a 5.1 sound system from Dick Smith's which was repaired. It was heavily reduced, so I took the gamble.

I've had a few random issues with sound, of which I have to power the unit off/on and it works again. It's a little annoying, but it was something like $200 from $500, and a quick workaround to get it working again.

        • @ozyboy: And make sure you not buy from "Runs by Asian Guys"

It's not safe. You could get the runs too. It's one of the leading causes of death.

      • Are you Asian ? Because it's hard for me to understand you now :)

  • I bought a fridge about 4 years back that was heavily dented on the door with the ice/water dispenser. They came over a week later and replaced the door with a new one, essentially making it a 'new' fridge again. No problems with it ever since. Bought a microwave and TV after that and they are going along no problems. It was the Mt Ommaney store I got it from.

  • I have a fridge and washing machine from these guys… They are a good bunch, always up for a bit of haggling XD
