How Do I Find Fellow Travellers?

Hi Guys,

I have a lot of friends but not all of them like travelling as much as I do ;) (obviously everyone has their preferences and valid reasons). I was just wondering whether there is a way to find fellow travellers depending on the city you reside or the destination you want to travel to? I'm currently residing in Sydney and I don't mind travelling locally in greater Sydney area either. International travel is always a blast too so I'm game for that as well :D

Any suggestions on this is very much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

    Facebook groups. Couchsurfing.com discussion pages.

When you go travelling, you can meet fellow travelers in hostels.

  • thanks guys, I thought couchsurfing was mainly for international travels, will have a look at that.

  • Airport?

  • Look for them holding copies of The Red Flag on the fringes of a demonstration in Melbourne.

I don't trust strangers which is why I don't have friends.

  • For those that say couchsurfing have you tried it? urgh my friend tried and the place had no toilet! If travelling overseas I've met people on day trips, hostels or guest houses and if you are staying a bit longer (or not) meetups

    • couchsurfing is great for meeting travellers at organised events etc. you do not need to 'couch surf' to make use of the community.

  • Well during the international long haul flight, you should have a substantial amount of time to approach fellow passengers to ask if find fellow travellers. I think that's your best bet.

  • at the bar in the airport ;-)

When I travel the last place on earth I want to be is around other travelers.
If you want to find them they all seem to fly half way across the globe and sit in the same themed bars they have at home, Irish and english bars in Vietnam and Thailand are a classic example. Backpacker strips like Bui Vien and Khao San are another.

    • Fair comment but having travelled alone many times it's nice to meet other travellers, we sometimes share rides to other cities or do touristy things together that locals are not interested in doing, I have also lived as an expat in Asia and appreciate connecting with other expats. Certain types of travellers I would steer clear from though (the drunk schoolies vomiting type). It's not easy to meet 'local's as you think esp with a language barrier. I certainly do not seek out travellers to befriend in my home town. Most people don't as they are too focussed on their own lives and existing friends. I find when locals randomly 'befriend' me overseas I am suspicious, sometimes it's unfounded and more often than not, valid.
