Garage Floor Coating (Brisbane)

Hi guys,
I am looking for a suitable coating for my garage floor. I was looking at epoxy kits but at $175 (bunnings) and $185 (masters) is a bit heavy on my pocket…
Does any of you know where I can get a better deal? (I am in Brisbane)
Thanks for your help!
Cheers

  • Hi guys,

I am in Brisbane as well. Looking at getting a coating on my garage floor as well. It's a standard size double garage with a concrete floor.

    Thank you.

  • im in NSW and also interested about this. but $170-ish is okey, i think? depending how big the area we can cover with that kind of money? is that per tin and what area one tine can cover? can we easily do it ourself?

  • hello,

Assuming your existing garage floors are concrete then i think a Berger Jet Dry paint is the only option if you want to spend less than $175. A 10L tin should cost around $120-$150 and would be enough for 2 coats. I have used it a couple of times at my parents and my sisters and both are still looking good. Follow the instructions on the tin and it will last a long time.
    Hope this helps.

  • I've used one of these from masters a couple of years ago. Purchased 2 packs for single garage (2x$74) instead if 1 for double (1x$170). Also added some anti-slip powder for $10.

Result is definitely worth money spent…

  • Thanks for your replies!
I think I won't get it cheaper than $150 ish, the question now would it be if is worth to spend the extra $20 - 30 for the epoxy instead of polyurethane (or Acrylic)… I don't know how long either would last and how complicated would be recoating at a later point in time depending on the coating I apply.
This website is quite good on explaining how to apply the product they make:

    Thanks for all the comments

Epoxy should be better and last longer. However smell during and a couple of days after application would be terrible. Probably not the way to go if garage is under the same roof with your house.

Recoating is complicated in either way, requires sanding and etching.

  • BTW the 2 x single garage epoxy, at Bunnings, comes out to be $3 cheaper than the double garage

Be careful with these Epoxy garage floor coatings, as they are NOT normally UV stable. If your garage floor gets any sun light directly, the coating will discolour. May be worth considering/investigating various paving paints.

    • Thanks Boccos, do you think the PU is better on sunlight?

  • If money wasn't an object, what would be considered a primo garage floor paint or covering? I've been thinking about painting, but we're already in the house and to paint would involve probably doing one side of the garage, letting it dry, shifting everything over and then finishing the other side.

The other option would be garage carpet. The only downside I can see to this is if you want to do woodworking in the garage, sawdust is a b***h to get out of the carpet.

    • I think if money was not an issue I would put tiles on the garage.
No tyre pick up, looks good, last and is easy to clean…

Actually that would be a very cheap option for me… I've got a stack of enough spare tiles from the house build (600x600) to do the entire garage… Would be a bit slippy if driving in wet.

        • You can always ask people in gumtree or those people that buy construction stuff if they are not willing to exchange your tiles with exterior tiles that are more wear resistant and not so slippery.
You can try Woolloongabba Demolitions if you're in Brisbane.
          Cheers

  • I'm looking for one to do under my car port which get healthy dosage of UV daily. The current surface is wearing out due to tyre turning dig into them.
