  • +1 on this from me!!
i am thinking about buying a cheap 2-way audio monitor (so we can take it with us on holiday/etc), and getting an IP camera that we can open when needed/share with the relos/etc/etc. like

  • Me too. But have no clue where to start.

We have the Oricom sc710 (currently $179 at Babies R Us), which is highly rated in our circle (at least another 4 couples I know have this model). It has all the features the OP has requested and you can add multiple cameras to the system if you have more than one kid.

Historically the low price was $149 on sale, but they seem to have been at $179 over the past few months (I keep an eye on it for those friends about to have babies).

  • Found out something new to me last week, so check it out yourself to see if it fits your purpose. $0 cost.

If you have an iPhone/iPad/ or any combination, there is an IOS app now that can switch them to monitor.

    • reason to neg - quality, price. what is it?

    • i am thinking of setting up something similar to what eatwell suggested. But my plan was to buy a couple of cheap prepaid smart phone and use them over wifi

      • if you try to get multiples, cheaper to buy dlink camera - the day only version as low as $49 over wifi. Or pay a bit more for the zoom version (better resolution). It is around $169 but bought from DSE for $89 once, other time I pay $120.

  • Oricom sx710 review not doing so good tho. When i browse through oricoms range theyre mostly average reviews.

Personally i prefer a physical monitors gadget not a running app.

    Any other inputs?

    • You have to bear in mind that people tend to only write online reviews when they have issues, so the rating is always going to be mediocre and should be taken with a grain of salt; a 3* or 4* rating should be considered a 5* to some extent. Also some of those reviews include accidental damage not being covered by warranty (when is it ever) and additional peripherals, which you don't need.

Their Rep seems to be responding to complaints, so that shows Oricom have integrity and try to sort out any issues you may experience, as opposed to some companies that don't even make an effort.

      Anyway, happy with ours.

  • Hi

I got a hikvision IP camera from aliexpress. You can use iPhone, ipad, android phone etc to watch and it has two way sound as well. As it is just an IP camera I also used it to spy on a mouse problem in my garage. It has night vision and trigger recording to SD.

Generally we just have the screen up on an ipad when required.
