Yume App: 50% off Unwanted/Overstocked Food at Cafes/Restaurants [Melbourne]

Yume App

Just discovered this app last night. What is it?

If you appreciate good food at the best price, then Yume is for you. Because Yume is a food app where absolutely everything is 50% off. How, you ask? Easy. When one of your favourite food outlets finds themselves with too much of something – a dish, a piece of fruit or a baguette – they pop it on Yume for you to snap up.

Such a great idea. There are cafes who sometimes give out discounted stuff at the end of the day. One of the venues listed on the app, Intersection Cafe, was one of my frequently visited places on the way back from the pub. On a couple of occasions before closing they'd offer a whole bunch of fried goodess for whatever change you had.

Looks like the app was started by one of the founders of Secondbite in which their mission is to reduce food waste.

I guess if you can wait to have a late lunch or early dinner then this app is for you. No need to purchase anything through the app. Just click on the coupon and show it at the venue.

Has anyone tried it?

Got nothing against the app or idea or whatever but what is with people and wasting food? We live in a time where food is everywhere and yet here's some bonker running a pointless campaign to fix a non-existent problem lel.

    • did you think before writing that?

  • sound excellent.
I do a lot of dancing at intersection cafe!

    • I hope you mean upstairs!

I've been tracking the deals and they seem to mostly be the same every day at the same places. Seems they got them on an autoschedule as a marketing thing rather than cafes using it to get rid of excess stock.
