New Zealand Currency Exchange

Going to NZ in Dec, is it better (in terms of the rate) to take AUD and exchange to NZD in New Zealand or buy NZD in Australia??

Not sure if this is cheapest but most convenient to me - simply use ATM once arrive, will get NZD.

Get a Citibank Plus card (use in atm) see https://www.citibank.com.au/aus/banking/everyday_banking/cit…
    and
Also suggest a 28 degree Mastercard (optional-as i know nothing of your financial capacity to repay :))

    Used both OS :)

I always pay in local currency on the cards (in your case NZD)(don't be swayed by certain overseas businesses that say they have a great rate)

    • This is my setup that I am planning to take to Europe :) Just waiting on my Citibank card to arrive. Use Citibank card at ATMs overseas to withdraw local currency and use the 28 degrees card for any purchases that will accept card as you get the best rate that way and 28deg card has no bank fee associated with foreign purchases which makes it ideal for online overseas purchases too (Steam, Origin, Amazon)

I used to find that the NZ post office had the best rate when we were travelling around.

  • I'm not sure if this is the best way but it is an option, when we went the dollars were near parity so instead of changing money they took our AUD in places where you need to hire a car etc, entry to sites, most purchases was thrown on the credit card and the rest we pulled out about $150 from the ATM for the 3 whole weeks. NZ is EXPENSIVE BTW and it's full of Aussie brands so we didn't buy much except for food, travel and entrance fees. Drinking out is so expensive, we spent about $200 on a few drinks for 3 and snacks. Buying wine in a bottle shop is cheaper than Oz which is an alternative.
