eBay Recent 20% Discount

Being new to both PayPal and eBay discounts I am having a little difficulty with deciphering a recent purchase. I bought a camera lens at $215 during the CWEDDING20 promotion and at the check out, having applied the code the total was $172 which I saw as $215 less 20%. However when checking my paypal account I see a withdrawl of $215 and at the bottom of the statement the following.

"Funding type:
Redemption Code and PayPal Funds
Funding source:
$43.00 AUD - 20% selected bridal, special event fashion, gifts etc. #CWEDDING20
$172.00 AUD – PayPal Account"

Which to me reads that the debit to my paypal account should have been $172 and eBay would supply the additonal $43 to the seller.

Am I wrong in this reading? Should I expect a deposit from eBay or should I contact the seller with regards to the difference.

I have yet to find where the PayPal "statement" resides where I could see that the running total had reduced by $172 or $215

Any directions or hints will be gratefully received.

I have to say I am very happy with the lens and the prompt delivery.

You're looking at a transaction of $215, not a withdrawal.

The total of $215 was paid with two funding sources: $43 from PayPal itself (Redemption Code) and $172 from your PayPal account (PayPal Funds).

Which to me reads that the debit to my paypal account should have been $172 and eBay would supply the additonal $43 to the seller.

That's exactly what the text you quoted says happened.

    Correct

However when checking my paypal account I see a withdrawl of $215 and at the bottom of the statement the following

It shows this amount as the seller still receives the whole amount

Only $172 was withdrawn from your bank account. Check you account online if you want to make sure.

I don't know why they show the full amount as the transaction amount. I was panicking for a while, and was going to check through all my ebay purchases for the past year or so when they had these promotions. Ebay order details also show the full amount, no mention of the discount until I realised I could click on the Paypal transaction to get the details.

I guess the good thing is cashrewards record the transaction as full amount, so the 4% cashback is based off that rather than the discounted amount.

TL:DR You weren't alone. I had the same difficulty.

Thank you all for the comments and clarification. Obviously I was mis-reading the information and once I found "reports" that actually shows the $43 going in before being added to my $172 to make the total purchase cost.

I am even more happy with the lens and delivery.
