Buying a Mattress/ Bed Frame!

I'm currently looking around at buying a mattress and a bed frame and Super Amart want to change me $80 for local delivery even though the store is only 5 minutes away.

Sadly I don't own a car or know anyone who has a ute/trailer to assist me.

Are there anyways I can try and talk Super Amart or any other retailer into giving free delivery? :p

  • Wages, putting it in the truck, insurances, fuel, running costs etc… $80 is cheap for local delivery from a retail store.

You might get local delivery for things like that from Lifeline etc, for under $50 if you're lucky, and depending on the size.

Did you already try bargaining with them in terms of price? Usually I would let them know I need it delivered and just bargain for a "best price" for delivery + bed frame + mattress.

If they've already given you a good price on the bed frame + mattress and insisting you pay the $80 for delivery then another way would be to offer someone $40 to do it via airtasker or gumtree?

    • We bought a really nice recycled red gum TV cabinet from this store. We haggled over a price then the guy told us it would cost $50 more for delivery so we haggled a bit more. When we got to the price I told him we could do our own delivery and brought around our Baby Merc A class - these are little trucks. We loaded the cabinet in and took it home. I didn't have to pay the delivery fee and I got a better price.

  • Hire a ute, do it yourself.

    or use uber, lol.

The store and the warehouse where the bed is can be different, so it might not be literally 5 mins away.

  • See if any of your neighbours have a ute/ car with trailer and ask them. Even if you dont know them. If they help then buy them a six pack of beer.

    Where in qld are you?

  • Check Pocco. They will lend you their small van for 1 hour without charge.
