Decommissioning a Pool to Comply with The New Laws (Queensland)

Hi all,

I had a quick read on the net and it seems you can decommission a pool by drilling holes or removing one side, so that it can not fill more than 300mm, removing the need to install compliant fencing.

Would installing a submersible pump with a float switch so that the water level cannot go higher than 300mm comply with the current laws so that no fence would be required.

This is the pump I was thinking of

I doubt it as it could fail etc. You should check with your local council for accurate advice though.

  • The pool can still fill to over 300mm if the pump was removed or failed. So, no. It would not comply.

Removing a side or similar is difficult to rectify unlike simply removing the pump or even turning it off.

  • In ground or above ?

    • Its a In ground.

If you empty it , it's still a hazard and will need to be fenced or completely filled in.

        • Do you mean as in common sense or as in the law?

As the thing I read said drilling holes or removal of one side, it never elaborated on the hazard of the hole.

  • fill it with jelly or bean bag beans. Or clean fill (free?) or sand.

    • Do you mean…

Fill it with jelly, or bean bag beans?

      or

Fill it with jelly (beans) or bean bag beans?

      Either way, sounds cool.

  • I'm thinking it might be better to build a deck over it, would this comply with the law?
