MORETTI 35cm Energy-Saving Pedestal Fan with Remote Control for $50 @ Bunnings [Caroline Spring, VIC]

60

So I found this fan at Bunnings Caroline Spring, VIC for less than half price, at $50 from the original $109.

I bought two of these over the weekend. Seemed quite a good price with good build quality and a lot functionalities included.

If you are planing to buy a fan or two for summer (this year is forecast to be a hot one) then I recommend getting in early as the price won't go down when the temperature gets hot

General specs:

DC Motor, saves up to 50% energy.
Ioniser for cleaner air
12-speed dial & 7-hour timer
Remote control
3 breeze modes: constant/natural/sleep
Broad base for stability

The DC motor is actually interesting as I didn't hear much about it until now. So I did a bit of research and it turns out that it's quite good compare to the traditional AC motor. It uses less energy, makes less noise and has more speed options. This website below has a bit of info about the difference between DC and AC motors

*Edit: One annoyance I found was that I can't find a way to turn off the light for indicating 3 breeze modes (constant/natural/sleep). It's shining blue and can light up the room a bit when you turn off the bedroom light.

  • So my partner got one of these last summer - at first i derided my partner for spending so much on a fan, but damn its so nice and quiet and actually built well - can see it lasting a long time.

Though it is let down as OP mentioned by the blue light - i stuck some duct tape over it to block it :)

      35cm is quite small, right?

I didn't think it's that much smaller than a standard 40cm one, only by 5cm

        • hehe I just realise it's NOT what she said :P

    • I am just thinking of doing the same thing. Will give it a try when the hot nights come back

This doesn't seem like a very good bargain unless I'm missing something … poverty brand 40cm pedestal fans are usually 40 bucks or so I think.

I don't have much experience with Moretti but I always thought it was low end of the market?

  • i don't think sherlock likes this

Notwithstanding the remote, timer & ioniser frills, I think the 50% reduced energy is mostly irrelevant.

    This is $11.90 http://www.bunnings.com.au/click-40cm-50w-white-3-speed-pede…

Supposing Moretti uses all of the 'saves up to 50% energy', it would be rated approx 25w (OP might be able to confirm)
    Suppose 50c/kwh, so you save .025kw x $0.5 = 0.0125 (1.25c) per hour.
At $40 more expensive, would need to run it for 3000-odd hours to break even.

(someone may like to validate my maths!)

    • have to agree with you - fans themselves don't use much energy anyway.

    • Maybe your maths is correct however I have to say based on the functionalities it would be quite a good deal. For example, not having to sit up and lean over to turn off the fan in the middle of the night is a plus. This fan is also quiet

    1832 seems like only yesterday.

    • I know the first one was a DC motor. What I meant was for it to be used in a fan

surely brushless dc motors on pc fans/prop motors on rc planes/quads?

        • You are right krisspy. I shall eat my own words!

  • Aldi has got a 40cm one including remote control $39.99 starting from tomorrow
