after a modest cost mic for recording video voice over, screencast, podcast and the like
There are lots of sites recommending lots of gear - some at massive cost
Anyone have a recommendation for something reasonable at an entry level price - $50 to $100 I guess?
Connectivity - would be great if it had options like USB and 3.5mm or other

Would highly recommend the Blue yeti for a little over $100. Wait for a sale and I'm pretty sure it has popped up on Ozb previously.
Most headsets do have reasonably quality microphones starting from the $50 range. For example, my Logitech G430 purchased at $60 does a very good job.
In terms of microphones by itself, I do recommend the Blue Microphones Snowball. You will find them around $100 at most stores, e.g PCCG, etc. You might want to consider purchasing a Pop Filter too if you want greater quality recording to prevent "pop" noises. Usually goes for $20ish for a decent one.
